G35x Wheel Compatibility

Hey guys,

I've tried searching but nothing comes up when searching AWD or G35x, and I've read through countless posts covering this subject, but it's still very confusing.

I have an '05 G35x and I want to run a staggered setup without messing up the AWD system. I jeep reading/hearing about how an X can run staggered, as long as the tires are within 3-5% of each other. I also hear that the X CANNOT run a staggered setup unless the tires are one size all-around.

My questions are as follows:
  • How exactly can one determine the 3-5% range when comparing different size front/rear tires?
  • I have 18" winters right now mounted on 225/45R18 all-around. I'm planning on running a set of coupe 18's that I just picked up, for the summer. The tires on them are 225/45R18 fronts and 245/45R18 rears. Will these work? Or will I need to change up the tire sizes?
  • Which tire sizes have you guys had experience running staggered on an X?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

The car in question.

The important thing is the diameter of the whole set up. I use the miata tire size calculator and then try to get the overall diameter of the tires to be as close as possible. I'm currently running a staggered setup on my 04 x with no problems. Here's a link to the calculator:

Here's some pics and specs for reference. Currently I'm running 245/40 18 and just stretched the rear tire slightly which barely causes a difference in diameter. The wheels are 8.5" wide in the front and 9.5" wide in the rear. Hopefully that helps a little.
