What is the Max Tire width for stock rims?

My 05 Coupe is currently running 245/35/19 up front and 255/40/19 in the rears. Will going to 265/35/19 be too much for the stock 8.5 rear rims? I know most tire companies recommend at least a 9 inch rim for that tire size. I just wonder if adverse effects would happen such as wear, rubbing, poor handling, ect... Is it worth it going that wide on stock rims?

There's a few who have ran 275's before but I wouldn't recommend it. After seeing how the 255's fit, my preference was not to go wider then that.

Stay with what you're running!

There is no logical reason to go larger than what you're using only negative results in handling and wear....Gary

I'm running 245/45/18 in the front and 275/40/18 on the rears on the stock wheels. the handling is pretty good and no problem whatsoever and I love the beefy look also.

Can you mount it? Yes. Would I recommend it? No.

I'd stick to a 255 at the widest.

Factory wheels and tires for 6MT coupes (or performance package) are:

Front:
19"x8"
225/40/19

Rear:
19"x8.5"
245/40/19

Source:
Amazon Amazon
or any infiniti spare parts website for the wheels
www.tirerack.com for the tires.

If I can offer up some ideas I've read for the discussion here:
Wider tires mounted on a small wheel that bulge are not as stiff as properly sized or smaller width tires, so the gain of additional contact patch is negated by additional flex side to side. I have hear some drivers will add more pressure to their tires (40+ PSI) to counter this affect, which reduces ride quality, leads to premature wear, and increases noise significantly. My sources are all individual accounts, there is no cold hard logic behind it. Can anyone shed any more light on this?

When you put and overly wide tire on a small wheel the sidewall will bulge over the edge and the tire then loses it's ridgitity. This causes a soft and squishy handling in corners.

OP, USE THE DAMN SEARCH FUNCTION.

4DGS, thanks for another voice on this. I think the OP is probably as confused as I am since many of the threads i find on this subject differ in their conclusion. I getting new tires too and I am considering RE-11's in the stock size ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes )

Ultimately, in order to expand my options for better, cheaper tires, it would be great to know just how wide i can go without bulging for each wheel. Do you have any guidance on that?

Check my garage link for pics of 275/35/19's. It's a Goodyear upsize recommendation to our stock size.

So far I'm enjoying it, I haven't compared the same tire in stock size vs 275's so I can't comment on handling. I went from a **** stock size Nankang to Kumhos. I like the beefier look.

The big plus is that it's the same height as the stock size. 265/40 was looking too tall.
