Tire replacement w/no rim damage?!

I am going to have to replace my tires soon and I was wondering, how do I get the person who is replacing my tires not to damage the rim (i.e. scratch it while prying the tire from the rim and then trying to seat the new tire on the rim). Every car I have owned has had some damage done to the rims either when replacing the tires or repairing them. Is there a special technique the "tech' needs to use? Is there a magic word I need to say? No matter what "precautions" are taken I always get the edge of the rim scratched/gouged. Or is rim damage an unavoidable inevitability? HELP!!!

Your dealer might be able to do a better job...atleast they can get replacements
if they screw it up. It's really how careful the installer is and if they use the
proper mountng equipment with the plastic protectors (and no metal crow
bar!).

Go to a tire/wheel shop that sells quality aftermarket rims. There is a special machine that they can use so that no metal comes in contact with your rim. I think the machine is a Hunter something or other. Have to advise against going to dealer, they didn't have the equipment to change 18 inch tires and ended up gouging my rims

I am also worried about this issue. They got the tires on at the factory without any type of nick or scratch yet whoever you take it to will f**k them up gauranteed! When I need tires I am going to make them sign a paper stating they will replace all wheels if scratched. What a shame that people can't do a decent job these days.

doh! ok, scratch that idea then.

Fortunately, my dealer deals not only with Infiniti's but with
Maybach, Porsche, Benz, BMW, etc. so they apparently have the
right gear to do tire mounting.
