2005 coupe 6MT tires in cold weather?
I'm having a heck of a time finding winter tires and wheels (17") locally, seems to be the end of the season for them. tirerack.com is almost sold out as well.
My question is can the 2005 coupe 6MT (19" wheels with summer tires) be driven in cold weather? I've seen all the remarks about driving in snow and can tell thats not a very good idea. But what about temps in the 20s or 30s?
My 6MT coupe is due by next Tuesday so I'm trying to decide if I should just store it for the rest of the winter
or drive it in non-snow weather.

I don't think its so much a matter of the temperature solely but rather the snow. The coupes tires are pure summer tires which have near zero traction in snow, especially with a rwd car. Of course cold weather plays a part as it makes the rubber hard thereby adding to the poor traction. You would very likely be able to get around in the cold as long as there is little or no snow to contend with. The tires won't be as grippy for spirited handling however. It is getting late in the season to buy winter tires, especially in the larger sizes so good luck finding 17's.
thanks, that's exactly the issue for me: slim pickins' for winter rubber, most places are sold out of the good tires.
it'll only two more months in Boston before temps get back to 40ish anyways, so i think i'm going to try to stick it out and buy a wheel/tire package next September or so when they're replenished and more available.

DO NOT drive the G with your High Performance Tire in the snow unless you plan on doing unplanned MODs on your G. You'll fishtail like crazy (RWD) and you won't get ANY traction whatsoever in ANY hint of snow. They are NOT made for snow. I've heard of people in accidents, issues going even on the slightest slope, not being able to get out of the driveway, and spending 30min just going 100ft.
Just to give you an idea, I have Blizzaks LM22's and I still fishtail when gasing, so imagine your tires that aren't made to for snow...
DO NOT drive in the snow!!
Cold weather is fine, it's the miniscule amounts of snow that'll affect your G's traction. For you and your G's safety, get winter setups. It's hard to get snow tires this time of year... Best of luck to you.

If you are going to drive in cold weather, make sure the pavement is dry. When I had my Pilot Sports , it was about 37 degrees out, and the mainroad was a little wet were I was, probably because of the nearby carwash. I fishtailed like crazy when I pulled onto the street. Scared the crap out of my wife....
Since I got my Pilot Sport All Seasons, that hasn't happened anymore.

No Go in the Sno
As I sit here stranded at my desk because I can't get up a gentle slope in my office complex, I realize now that a mere inch of snow is enough to make driving impossible (Michelin Pilots on 18" rims with 9k miles). I'll decide later to risk life and limb or eat humbe pie and ask my wife to pick me up.

You'd probably be good to go, with some donuts on your rears, as those are pretty skinny too, so it should at least grip enough to get you home.
Though, I'd probably do this late at night, when nobody's on the road...

My car is in an autobody shop and wont be done for another 4 weeks (been in 3 weeks)! Its goin to cost 8k to get it all fixed =/. 04 G met about 1/4inch of snow and it went crazy on me. did 10-15mph !! DONT DRIVE IT IN THE SNOW! ABSOLUTELY NO TRACTION
every place i've tried is sold out for winter sizes in 18" to fit the OEM rims. so i pretty much gave up...
i have been driving on the Pilots without much drama, but like 'Phat said, they get dicey with a little snow. driving home from work today i had some serious Formula D type sideways action goin on

There are no 19" snow tires. You will need to get all-season radials or purchase 18" wheels w snow tires, which I did.
With the Summer tires, when exiting my parking lot with a flat surface I had to put the car in D, get off, push it to get going, and quickly get in it so it wouldn't drive off without me. WTF!
