Square tire setup on OEM 18 rims

Square tire setup on OEM 18 rims

Hi guys. I've done my searching and am really surprised I haven't found a thread about this. Maybe I'm missing something.

Currently I'm driving my 03 coupe lowered on RSR Ti2000 350z race springs with the OEM 18" rims.
The tires are stretched:
Front: 245/40 R18
Rear: 275/35 R18

To make things simple and refresh some memories stock tire sizes are:
Front: 225/45 R18
Rear: 245/45 R18

Money is tight and I want to return to the OEM tire sizes. I need front tires badly, but my existing rears still have some life on them.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to stretch an OEM REAR sized tire (245/45) onto the front rim, then rotate them onto the rear once my existing rears go.

I believe that I read that a speedometer difference of 3% will mess with the VDC and according to the link above the difference would be 2.66%. I'm thinking that's too close because actual measurements differ by manufacturer, but I wanted your guys' opinion.

If not, will an OEM FRONT on my front rim cause my VDC to act up when used with my existing rear tires (275/35)? I think this is a silly question but I'm asking anyway!

I've thought about the tires being taller, but the biggest tire height gain is 14mm in the rear and I've got the room.

I think you're confused about what the term "stretch" is.

You're running ridiculously oversized tires for those wheels.... not stretched tires.

You can run 245/45 front and rear fine and when you go back to it, watch how much better your handling will get since you no longer have balloons in your fenders...

Your VDC won't act up with OEM fronts and 275/35 rears. Your rear size is only slightly taller than OEM anyway.

4DGS, you don't think 245/45 on stock 18's front isn't too oversized?

I've seen worse.

As long as the front doesn't rub (not familiar with the drop of those springs) then all is good. He plans to put them on the rear in the long run anyways.

Ideally, you should buy a set of 4 245/40s

I ask because you're outspoken about 275's on rears being bad for handling. Thought 245 on a 8" rim too big if 275 or 265 (previous threads) on 8.5" was bad.

Are you aware that the stock 18s are 18x8 square with staggered tires (225/245)

275s on 8s or 8.5 is way beyond what the wheel can handle and maintain sidewall rigidity.

265/35 on an 8.5 is fine (done it V1 track wheels) since the sidewall has been knocked down. But beyond that, you need wider wheels.

But in all honesty, why bother? stick to the oem sizes. Majority of the guys that ask to put 275s or 285s on their stock wheels are bitching about grip then they go and put cheap chinese oversized tires on their skinny wheels and claim it handles better. When in reality, it can't hook up and has actually diminished cornering ability. it really comes down to "if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't"

I think I've used this a few times in the last few weeks....

245/40 Michelin PS2 > 295/30 Nankang,achilles, nexen, triangle what ever.

With OE rims they're not supposed to be rotated! Your concept of stretched tires is a little off. With OE rims you can run 245/40X18" rubber front and rear for better handling. Check with tirerack.com for the best prices on tires, there wholesale prices are hard to beat anywhere....Gary

Don't the wheels or the hubs have a bolt that prevents the wheels from being rotated front to back?
