TPMS Question

44,000 miles on my '08 G35. I just experienced my 2nd TPMS failure. The 1st was at just under 36k and was handled under warranty. The local (s)dealership charged $274 ($149 for the sensor plus labor). At this rate 4 sensors will be over $1,000!!! This is not something I was expecting in the way of maintenance costs. I'm just wondering if this seems right to y'all? Any thoughts on a better alternative short of covering the warning light with a piece of tape?

Buy new sensors online and take them to a tire shop to install..

One of mine went out but was covered under my extended warranty. I actually remember going through a very deep long puddle and it went out while in the water. When I finally took it in, they did say one of them was dead.

I say don't waist your money on these. Just look at your tires every day. Long trip before you get on the road just look at them. I been running w/out mine for about 3 years now.

Yes, but I'm a perfectionist and an old pilot. I'm not too keen on lit warning lights showing on the panel.

Going to the dealer for all that work is going to add up, but any tire shop should be able to swap them out for a reasonable rate. If they keep getting messed up though I would honestly just skip them. A lot of people run without TPMS and don't have an issue.

I agree with all in here OP, just buy them online maybe from our vendor's and then have a good local tire shop install them for you. The dealer will always overcharge for any and everything!

First thing you need to do is quit going to the Stealership for service! You can buy wheel sensors almost anywhere, find a wheel shop that sells and activates them you'll be glad you did. It's less expensive to have work done at Nissan by 30% over Infiniti and I trust their mechanic too....Gary

Wouldn't the TPMS light being on, fail a Ca. Smog test?
