Rim Size Question

I am pretty simple with this and have a pretty basic question..

I have bought an 08 G35X with 17" factory rims and the rims appear to be dinged up in a few places and it looks like someone tried to just paint silver paint overtop. Not very noticeable but.....

My questions...

If I found a deal on 18" rims with tires already fitted, can those just slip right on the car? (I know there was option at purchase for 18" wheels instead of my 17)

I've also been looking at just replacing or repairing the 17's I have but I'm confused by all the extra things like "offset", "bolt patterns" etc... And there are so many options out there with sizes and manufacturers ....

What information do you have on the 18" wheels you found a deal on? Giving us that would help us help you decide.

Bolt Pattern: Different manufacturers use a different amount of spacing between between the wheel studs (or lugs, or holes in the wheel, same thing), so not all 5 lug wheels will fit all cars. The Infiniti/Nissan bolt pattern is 5x114.3

Offset is kinda what it sounds like, it's how far the center of the wheel is from the inner or outer edge. Depending on the width of the wheels, the G35 is pretty open to a lot of offsets. The combination of offset and width determine how "sunk in" or "flush" the wheel sits compared to the fenders.

If the wheels you found a deal on are OEM Infiniti 18" wheels they should be fine, but hopefully someone who knows the X models better than me can chime in on whether or not they should be staggered fitment like the coupes are.

Post up whatever you know about the wheel specs and the tire sizes and someone will be able to help you better. In general though, as far as diameter goes the G35s are good with anything up to 20" (and bigger can fit, but shouldn't).

Also check out the sticky threads at the top of this forum, there's a lot of good info there. To save you a quick minute, this link will help explain offsets better than I have:

http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/WheelOffsetCalc.html

There's also a sticky that has the listing of factory wheel sizes and offsets so if you know the new offsets you should be able to measure a bit to give an idea how it will look.

OP - We need more info on wheel dimensions, tire size, bolt pattern, etc.

Post up all that info.
