wheel bearing experts: question
wheel bearing experts: question
for background im driving a 2005 g35x sedan...
i've only changed wheel bearings a few times and have question if im doing it properly.
i once watched a dealership trained mechanic with 30+ years experience change two non servicable bearings and when he did he used a die grinder to clean out the inside of the spindle. he made the inside of the spindle completely smooth and flush, removing what looked like corrosion. i've followed this step when replacing my own bearings.
today im changing a wheel bearing with my brother and he tells me that under all that corrosion there is a lip or ridge that is supposed to be there and that i shouldn't be grinding the inner spindle to be completely smooth.
who is correct?
