Wheels do not fit flush on the disc brakes

Hello all

I just purchased a set of wheels on Craigslist (maybe that was a mistake) and when I went to put them on, the center hub on the disc brakes does not fit the wheel hub. In other words, The wheel does not fit flush up against the brake disc. It looks like the wheel has a disc that can maybe be taken off with press of some sort. So I'm wondering if I can replace that disc with one that will fit the hub?

I don't know if this info will help, but The guy i bought them from said he had them on a lexus.

I hope my description of my problem makes sense. I know I'm not a mechanic, and I'm trying to describe the problem as best as I can. If u all need more clarification, let me know

Thanks
Martin

Wheels probably have smaller hub centric rings(plastic or metal ring in wheel hub) intalled, you can probably pull those out with your hands. Once you have them removed you can pick up a set of new hubs rings. 73.1 to 66.1 I believe

Thanks for the info! Yes the wheel does have a metal ring in the center. I didn't try to pull it out cuz it looks like its a pretty tight fit. Would I need to take it to a wheel shop to get the ring replaced, or can it b a DIY? Know where I can pick up the rings?

You can push the hub rings in by yourself. Most wheel shops could get them for you.

There is Wheel Warehouse off the 91 and Lemon Street. Or, you could contact Henry from Statik and he will take care of you.

I was able to remove the rings but I'm having trouble finding replacement rings on line. I actually read on tirerack.com that the hub centric rings are used to center the wheel when mounting, but the lug nuts are what keep the wheels centered. So I'm wondering...can I install the wheels without the centric rings?

You can but you shouldn't, you may experience vibrations at certain speeds. Personally would source out hub rings before installing,

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...at=0&_from=R40

Any local wheel and tire shop should have exactly what your looking for as well...

Lol I completely forgot to check eBay. Thanks for the tips. I'll pick up the hub rings.

Is this happening in the front only? If so, you may just have to remove the small bolt on the disc. This is a "safety" feature so that stock wheels are not rotated in the traditional sense.

What wheels did you get? Sounds like they have a hubcentric ring on them which is an easy fix.

i didnt notice a small bolt on the discs when I was trying to fit the new wheels on, and since i had trouble fitting the front wheels on, i didnt even try to put on the rear wheels. i'll have to pull off a front wheel and check. thanks!
