Yokohama Avid Envigors Premature Dry Rot

Just wanted to let you guys/gals know that my Yokohama Avid Envigors are dry rotting in between the main tread grooves going all the way around the tires. All 4 with 8/32nds tread left out of the 11/32nds when new. Apparently this is very common in this particular tire.

I brought the car in to our local shop (Sullivan Tire) and they confirmed that they are junk now. They are in great shape and installed 10/3/2011 so they are submitting a warranty claim for me. I heard the claim process is super long and dragged out with Yokohamas but they give a prorated amount back to me based on tread depth. They use the current shop prices on the tires so I am hoping to get back $135 a tire. Lets see how tight they will be with the wallet.

I am interested to know if anyone else has made a defect claim (not a tread wear claim) and how the experience was for you. Particularly Yokohama experiences would be nice.

I plan on replacing these things with the brand new Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3s in 235/50R18 on all 4. I am very excited to try those out.

Haven't heard of that being an issue with those. Glad Yokohama is taking care of it. Keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks Neil. Sullivan only has one guy in the company that bounces around for warranty claims so I have not heard back yet. It sounds like they will be fronting the money to me and will deal with Yokohama on their own if the damage is truely indisputable. Very cool since the tires were not bought through them.
