Wheel Damage(Oxidation?) After Storing - Works Varianza T1S

So as the title says, I've just got my Works T1S out of storage now that I don't have to worry about winter weather and this corrosion/oxidation is on every wheel near the center cap. Physically, I can't feel anything out of the norm, so it has to be under the clear coat on the wheel. Here's a picture of the wheel with the most severe damage:

Has anyone had this happen to them? If so, what is the best method to approach this from? I'd like to get it figured out before putting them back on the G.

Thanks

I wouldn't expect that with a high end wheel. I would see if that can be fixed under warranty.

Well, let me chime in here.. I has the same wheels with the same problem.. I have it on all 4 wheels.. My wheels are no longer under warranty. As you stated it is under the clear coat and it's nothing you can do about it. Well I have not found anything that can be done about it. At first I thought it came from the folks that clean my car. I still have a feeling it did, but what can I do about it cause I don't have proof they did it. If you come up with any Fix for it, be sure to post back.. Best wishes bro

Wow! I wouldn't expect that from a Works wheel, looks like their quality really sucks! Find a recommended wheel repair shop in your area, have them stripped/polished and cleared! Might cost you $50+ each to get them back nice enough to install. Sad!

I'm in the same situation. I bought the car with the wheels over a year ago and the wheels came on it. Works only has a one year warranty, so I'm out of luck on that. I also have the problem of living no where near a wheel repair shop that could strip, polish, and clear the wheels.

So I'm wondering, would it be a good idea to take these to a local shop that powdercoats wheels daily and have them strip and powdercoat them? Or is that a bad idea that will result in chipping/degradation of the wheel? I'm open to anything as long as it means not having to look at this ugly mess or destroy my wheel.

I thought about doing the same thing. I thing I might do it later on down the road. As far as chipping..I thing they place a clear over the powder coating after it is done to stop/prevent chipping. I don't think it will degrade the wheel. This wheel is really a 2 piece wheel. It is welded to the drum. I also, feel that if you powdercoat it.. the wheel be one color since it can not come apart unless you "break" the weld and I would not recommend that.

On a side note one thing you should feel good about is that you didn't buy them new like I did cuz after spending 2600.. you will be extra **** to look at them

Talk to Gary c. He gets his wheels re-finished about every year. Aftermarket wheels aren't perfect, as they are exposed to the elements like a hobo. No shower and they get dirty quick!

Need to be sandblasted, then either polished and cleared or powdercoated.
