Wheel Lug Holes - Do They All Get Scratched When Changing Tire?

Has anyone noticed that the wheel lug holes are really small. So small that it is impossible to balance and rotate tires without scratching the wheel lug holes?

... thus the creation of the 'low-profile' lug nuts (a.k.a. 'tuner style'). They are typically also splined, so no chance of rounding off the nuts.

make sure to use a deep thin-wall socket..........also tape up the sides of the socket and lube it w/ wd40

Yeah, definitely tape up the end of the socket.

probably not...you can try asking them for touchup, but I don't think they sell them.
You'll have to get the entire wheel repainted. How bad is it?

^ what he said. you have to expect it if you're using the wrong type of socket/tools. or if you accidently slip and drop the socket/tool. i know with volk/work/buddy club/greddy lug nuts, there are special socket's that wouldn't strip or scratch the shoes.

Not that bad. Two lug holes per wheel have some scratches which are beyond the lugnut itself so you really can't see them. Only an psycho clean-freak owner would know .

I wouldn't worry about it then.

be really careful if you take your car to the dealer...I know every square inch of my car and the guys at Infiniti of Charlotte scratched them up badly (on the old wheels I had). I was sooo pissed that I complained to the manager, then Infiniti consumer affairs, to which they replied..."sorry, but we don't know for a fact that we did this. Your service records indicate service at other places."
Arghhh. I have since changed wheels, and now only I take them off and on. Period.

So they scratched your rims on the outside as well?

on one, yes...but I am mainly referring to the fresh circles that they dug out of the lugwells. I now have new chrome wheels but the painted ones had been scratched.

Yea, I have some of those on a few holes. Did you chrome your old rims or just buy new ones? Don't new rims go for $800 each?
