My Vredestein are better than your Michelin.

I know allot of you are big fans of Michelin Pilot Super sport tires and rightly so.
Those are outstanding tires and offer awesome dry and wet performance, but there is a But.

Last month I set out on a cross country road trip on my Coupe.
My tire of choice for the coupe has always been Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta.
On the last set I ran into bad mechanics at the alignment shop. It took them 4 tries to align my car correctly and in the process my rear tires got worn out in only 10k. So I had to get a new set before the trip. Since Vredestein not available anywhere locally I opted out for Pilot Super Sport.
So I left on a trip with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta on the front with 10k already on them and brand new Michelin Pilot Super Sport in the rear.

Through out the entire trip I drove through countless winding and canyon roads, hauled a$$ on the highway, drove through storms and pouring rain.
All that time both tires performed phenomenal. In dry I did not encounter any over or under steer. Both had equally good traction in the canyons. In wet I knew how good is the Vredestein, but Michelin also did not disappoint. I was able to do comfortable 70mph in a pouring rain when the rest of the cars had to slow down to 40.

So why is the Vredestein better?

My trip ended up being 300 miles short of 10k. My Vredestain still got half of tire tread left on them with already 20k on the clock. Michelin however is completely worn out and tread depth is almost reaching the wear bar.

I understand that rear tire will wear out quicker that a front in a RWD car, but as I mentioned before, this isn't my first rodeo with Vredestain. I did get 35-40k out of them in the past (in the rear). So they perform just as good in the rear as they do in the front.

So thank you Michelin for being a great tire, but what good are you if you only last 10k.

What a coincidence Joker, its been awhile!

I was currently shopping for tires today and was looking at Vredestein's since that is all my G has used too. I figured I'd check in with G35driver to find the "latest and greatest tire" and your thread comes up!

I will now have gone through 2 replacements of the Vredesteins. This will be my 3rd, I was considering another tire brand too because they are on "backorder" and Michelin pilots were on my mind. I am surprised you still got the G. I still have the M45 wheels and HR spacers.

FYI my first set of Vredesteins lasted 44k miles with staggered setup. This second set only lasted 30K also staggered. I don't know why the second set was much shorter. I think its because my alignment was probably off. I have a feeling the tire center I took it to did not know what they were doing. The rears are worn down to the indicator bar and the fronts are still good. Reading your thread assures me to just go with Vredestein.

Also, I am planning on replacing the following on my G
engine drive belts---> OEM
Compression Rods---> OEM, shipped today!
Rear Differential bushing (leaking oil)-----> Whiteline bushing kit
Front Rotors---> Premium Centric Rotors, Shipped today
Front Brake Pads---> Hawk HPS, Shipped today
Transmission Fluid----> Amsoil
Brake Fluid-----> Amsoil
Differential Fluid----> Amsoil
Power steering fluid---> Undecided probably Amsoil
Alignment

Thats all, any recommendations?

Have you had your rear differential bushing blow? Mine starting leaking this past week, I thought it was differential fluid but I was wrong after checking. I have about 142K mi clocked in my G35.

I just put some new Nitto tires on my car last week. I hope they hold up as well as my Hankook V12s

Well since you were looking for something new, you don't have to look far.
Vredestein got a new "kid on the block" called Vorti.
According to this site it's slightly better than Sessanta and it's in the same class as sessanta. Supposedly it lasts longer, has better wet traction and less noise.
Ultrac Vorti http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vr...trac-Vorti.htm
Ultrac Sessanta http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vr...c-Sessanta.htm

The fun does not end there.
How about $204 for 245/40/19 and $206 for 255/40/19? (those are the sizes I run) from these guys http://www.tires-easy.com/cgi-bin/rs...n&typ=R-234859

But wait! there is more!
Vredestein running a promotion now where you get $70 gift card if you get 4 tires. Vorti and Sessnta qualify for the promotion
http://www.tires-easy.com/cgi-bin/rs...ate-Vredestein

as far as everything else you mentioned. You pretty much got it all figured out.
I got amsoil fluid in the diff, will be changing my ATF with amsoil at 200k and running amsoil oil in the engine for now.
As far as the diff bushing, luckily it has now blown on me yet, so I have not changed it. One thing to consider if you go to poly bushing keep in mind that they will transfer more vibration to the body of the car. So your car might get slightly more noisier inside.

I sold my M wheels long time ago, kinda miss them every time I see a properly stansed G on M wheels, but then I look at my current wheels and I don't miss them no more

Here is a facebook page of my recent cross country trip in the G. You can see how my G looks at the moment.

Thanks for all the info JOKER,

I see you got some red wheels, those are nice. So I would be ok with running 255/40/19 on the rear with the M45 wheels? I have the spacers and I think they are 20mm. I am going to put my order in for the Vorti tires.

That also a good find on the tire prices. I would say just be on the lookout for that rear diff bushing cause it could blow. How many mi does your G have now? Those are some nice pics for your trip. Mt Rushmore is in my bucket list, one day.

Sadly though I have considered selling my G several times. My plan is to replace it with a Tesla Model S. I hate that I have to spend money to keep it up to date but its all maintenance parts.

I ran 255s on my M wheels.
I got 191k on my G.
Tesla is a nice car and all, but that 300mile range just sux.
As soon as they get a model with 1k range, I'm a costumer.

Yeah, the range sux but I recently bought a house that has solar and I have a supercharger a block away from my house.

I might buy a used one then get a new one once the range goes up. I am sure the range will likely increase and price will probably stay the same. The battery tech will get better.

BTW, I just placed an order for the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti 245/40/19 and 255/40/19 from Vulcan tire. I got the last 2 rear sets. These Vredestein's are hard to come by. Total was 963 shipped plus a $70 prepaid visa card (mail in rebate). So total will be $893. Tires-easy had the best price but they did not have the rears in stock. Oh well.

Discussions like these are ridiculous Joker! Best tires or best gas how about best exhaust system? Gotta mention, your exhaust system from your vid doesn't sound good! Is Chevron better than Shell? These kind threads only prove we all have different opinions Joker!

One more comment Joker, the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are UTQG rated at 300. If your alignment was within OE specs the Michelin's would have lasted far longer than the 10K miles you posted! Is it possible you need to find someone that knows how to align your coupe? It took me 3 shops and K of miles before I found someone that knew how to align modified suspensions...keep looking!

You are hella lowered though, which comes to no surprise. Last I checked he is just lowered a lil bit... Aka no issue with alignment.

Joker - Do you have aftermarket adjustable camber and toe arms around???

Gary, I was not talking about which is better (performance wise or rubber smell) I discussed a real world performance of the tire. My alignment was bad on the Vredestein set, not on the Michelin. Michelin wore out evenly but fast. Even guy at the tire shop told me that it's their norma wear.
I have not heard anyone getting 40k out of Pilot super sport.
It's a good tire BTW, it just does not last long.
Sound of exhaust is a preference, how quickly a tire wears out is a fact.

I'm only lowered a little more than an inch, SLICK looks very low because of her KurumaZ front bumper.

I could understand the PS2s with a UTQG of 140 wearing out in 10K miles, that's about how long mine lasted. The Super Sports have a UTQG of 300 which should give them better wear than you experienced. I don't believe your tire guy got this right...normal wear?

I don't give much credit to what he said, but then he's the one who puts them on every day so he knows how long they last on the car.
When I told him that my tires only lasted about 10k, He said that's about average for Super sport. It kinda surprised me as I expected them to last at least 25-30k as my Vredesten do, but apparently he was right.

I have a camber arm and a toe bolt.
Going to put adjustable control arms in the front with a new set.
