What size can i get for a good ride and better grip?

I just went from a staggered setup in my benz, 255/40/18 in front 285/35/18 in the back to my g35 215/55/16 all around and I do not like to ice skate on the road. what sizes maximum would you guys recommend so that i can get good grip but still keep a factory look? I'm ok with 17"-19" rims and staggered is ok too. I just dont want the rims to stick out for a mile. I drive an 04 sedan
