Offsets again
Offsets again
I was just checking out the new ride and noticed an interesting thing. I posted a while back that I have new 18s from my 2003 Maxima I traded in. They are 18x8 R6s with 245/40 Yokohama AVS ES100s. The offset on these wheels is 45mm. When I was looking at the new G, I ntoiced that the spare(full size with matching wheel) is a 17x7 with a 45mm offset. It says it right on the back of the rim. So, why won't my 45mm 18x8s work on this car? I know people have said 38mm is ideal. If that is still the case, I am just gonna buy 4 5mm H&R spacers to bring the 18s to a 40mm offset. I don't want to sell wheels I just got a year ago. Any input would be awesome. It's a 2005 G35X 5AT BTW.
Just put them on being careful not to hit the brake caliper and see if it doesn't
hit anything. then, before you roll your car out, check to see if the rear shocks
are rubbing or not. If not, roll the car out, do a slow lock to lock on the steering
to see if it rubs.
If it works, then it'll work.
offset is a bit tricky..for most cars a generic offset will work, but for cars with
large calipers you need to consider the various discs that may be available for that
wheel. ie: not all +38mm offset will work if your car has large calipers.

the recomendations to use a +38mm offset is because that will set the wheel closer to the fender and not leave the big gap between the wheel and fender when viewed from the front or rear. it just makes it look like the wheel was made for the car. you should not have any problems with the wheels fitment. i've seen 19x9.5" in the rear of a sedan with +48offset and they rolled just fine. hope this helps clear things up.
Thanks guys. If the weather was a little nicer, I would have cleaned the car and put the wheels on. I plan on bolting them on to see how they work/look. I fugure if they sit too far inside (tucked in look), I can just get 5mm H&R spacers to make the effective offset to 40mm. That's only 2mm off the recomended offset. That should be fine. I gotta say though, this is an amazing car. Clear corners and matching high beams/foglights are next. I just have to figure out where to start
