Recommendations for winter wheels/tires?

I'm moving to Philly in september. My girlfriend is selling her car, and offering to buy me a set of winter tires/rims so we aren't stranded if we need to drive somewhere. What are some things to look for?

I know it's cheaper if I get 4 identical tires all around. I also know that 19 inch rims are much more expensive to buy. What do you guys run for winter tires/rims? Tire rack quoted me around 1200-1300 for the whole set with 17s, does that seem like a reasonable price?

Id go on craigslist or look at the for sale posts here for a stock set of wheels and then throw some blizzaks on them.

Usually you can find someone selling a set of stock wheels fairly cheap

Are blizzacks the best snow tires? I think tire rack was recommending nitto snow tires if I wanted to spend a little less.

Look on the marketplace here, or local to you as summer time means cheap winter setups time!

The taller the winter tire the better (read 17's, if possible).

If you have sport brakes you might have to go 18's. Don't go 19's or 20's for winter wheels though.

You mean if I have the brembos? Technically I have a sport package because it's the 6MT but I haven't gone with brembos.
