Rim Damage
SO, I took my 05 G Coupe to get detailed and they damaged the finish on the rims. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what did you do? How do you fix this? They didn't charge me for the detail and he said he's fix the rims, but I want to make sure it is done correctly. Any help, knowledge or ideas would be great!
Looks like it might have been over spray from the tire cleaner, my guess is he sprayed on a wheel cleaner then sprayed on the tire cleaner without rinsing off the wheel cleaner first.
Individual products are almost never this destructive unless they sit for an hour but if you go MIXING products by spraying multiple ones on at the same time then you have unpredictable chemical reaction.
If you stick with wheel/tire products from the same company then you probably won't have this problem, different manufacturers products are almost never compatible with one another.
This is why it's critical to do one step at a time, spray/scrub/rinse wheels then spray/scrub/rinse tires, then move on to the rest of the vehicle.

Sadly the OEM Rays are prone to this kind of staining. When I ran them on my sedan years ago they stained from just driving through some funk on the road. It's not an issue with the clear, it remains intact and somehow chemicals penetrate it and stain the metal of the rims. I've never seen a solution to this issue posted on the forum in 8 years, might not be one other than a complete refinish of the wheels.
We've seen wheels destroyed just by allowing the wash
at the dealerships wash our cars! If the stain has destroyed the clear on your wheels the only correct way is to have them painted or powder coated! Advice: check out www.griotsgarage.com and buy a kit, learn how to detail your own car!

Ouch. Don't think that can be fixed unfortunately.
Does the detail shop carry insurance? If so they need to make a claim and get yourself a new set......for the price of OEM rays you might be able to score a whole new setup
....Those were in pretty good shape too....

idk why these idiot car wash places would used some kind of acid wash on peoples wheels. thats wat happened. the wheels either need to be repainted or replaced with a used set. easier to just have it replaced. price outcome would be about the same
