Tire Rotation??

Okay...this is going to sound dumb, especially since I know a thing or two about cars...(or thought I did, anyway)...

Do we (or, can we/should we/how do we) rotate the tires on the Coupe 6MT??

Tire guys out there, please chime in. This is the first car I've owned with different size front-to-rear.

Re: Tire Rotation??

Nope. And there's a peg on the front rotors to keep you from installing the rear rims there.

With high-performance tires, it doen't matter much.. just check your tire pressure regularly and check the alignment as recommended by the service schedule, and you're fine. The tires don't last long enough for rotation to have that much of an effect on them, anyway.

If you want a second opinion, go check out some BMW forums regarding the 330i (sedan or coupe, doesn't matter) with the sport package and tire rotation.. same situation, staggered tires.

Re: Tire Rotation??

Not recommended since like you said the ones in the back are wider for a reason. Plus you will look real unhip with wider tires/wheels in the front than the rear. Looks really funny even on a front wheel drive car.

You can take off those bolts in the front.

Re: Tire Rotation??

I don't think it's stated that you should or not, but the only way to rotate them is to take them off the rims and swap left/right and not front/back then re-mount the tires.

Re: Tire Rotation??

That's more expensive than just replacing the tires a little early unless you happen to have a tire mounting/balancing maching in your garage.

'Preciate the input fellas. I had the inclination that there wasn't anything to do, rotation-wise, but I had to ask!!

Re: Tire Rotation??

You have to anyway with high-performance tires. They wear fast, whether you rotate or not.

Re: Tire Rotation??

Can you switch them side-by-side? Just switch the Lefts to the Rights and vice versa? Some cars may have camber and would be a good idea to switch so that you don't just burn the insides of the tires. Is that possible? I have a sedan so I wouldn't know.

It's still a G thang!!

Re: Tire Rotation??

I believe the OEM tires are unidirectional.. so to switch them side-to-side, you'd have to unmount the tires, flip them, and remount them. By the time you've done that a few times, it's cheaper just to let them wear out and buy new tires.

Re: Tire Rotation??

I read in an earlier thread that Sam's will unmount and remount for $8 a tire. If that's true, $32 would surely be worth it

Re: Tire Rotation??

If you're willing to risk it. I'd be leary of a place like Sam's scratching the rims.

Re: Tire Rotation??

Mounting and unmounting tires is also hard on the bead. Mind you, It's not going to be that frequent, but it's something to consider. Also for $8, does that include a rebalance?
