It looks like after a LONG conversation with the vendor, I will be going w/ the RA-1's.

Good choice! Let us know how you like em!

btw ... here's a quick excerpt of myself and my cousin at California Speedway a couple of weekends ago. We shared time in his S2000 running on a set of 'on the way out' over heat-cycled Pilot Sport Cup R-coimpounds. We're also going to replace them w. a set of fresh RA1s!

View Here.

Nice Vid!

I can see why they were "on the way out".... It looks like you really had to saw at the wheel to keep her on the track.

The other cool thing was seeing the Porsche's suspension settle in the turn.

Thanks for sharing, as well as the advice.

Wayne.

After much back-and-forth with vendors and racers, I finally decided on a set of AVON Tech R tires in the 225/45/17 size.

They were delivered yesterday and look bada$$ mounted to the OEM rims. They are so sticky, in fact, that when I was rolling them into the living room, one of the tires (or tyres as printed on the sidewall) started to PICK UP THE CARPET as I rolled it over it.

Thanks to all for the input/suggestions.

Neato. Let us know how they do.

Although w.o. a point of reference other than other street compound tires, I'm guessing your review will go something like this:

"OMG! ... these stick like *****!?!?!"

j/k ...

I'll be interested to hear from you how they wear and how quickly (laps) they become 'gummy and slippery' from over-heating.

Cheers,

How would a set of 275/40R17 RA1s perform on 17x8 rims? Is 275 too wide for AutoX?

I was originally thinking about just using some 255/45R17 T1S on 17x8 as a race set, but that article on the RA1s made me reconsider.

The 225/45/17 Avon R-compound tyres performed flawlessly. Please read my experience here: https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...238#post540238

ChicagoX,
I busted out laughing with your opening quote!

Not too far off there was I? LOL!

Depending on a track surface temperature, acouple of laps sounds about right before the Rs feel proper. So, how did the wear pattern look? Sounds like you really had a tons of fun out there. Sorry to hear about the dude's Vette!

275 wide tires on a 8 inch rim would be too wide. I would expect to be some bulging for sure. 255 or 245 would be a much better choice.

Wear was as expected with stock suspension and camber settings; slight rounding of the fronts and nice even wear across the rears. With a preponderance of right-handers, the drivers' front tire took the most abuse, but no cording.

Any rotation advice for a newbie? Thanks!
