20"s dropped with Tein Flex

I finally got some decent pix of my car, thanks to my friend TOM.

Installed Tein Flex with SPC rear camber arm and toe bolt. I dropped the front about 1.5" measured from the top of the fender to the ground. The rear is dropped 1" measured from the top of the fender to the ground.

total from stock the front was lowered close to 3" and the rear is 2". 20" rims raise the car an inch.

The front dampening is set to 4 and rear is set to 3. I'm not sure what people are talking about, but the Flex's can be set very soft and tuned to feel just like stock (minus the wheel hop). No matter how you set these up I don't think you can have wheel hop like the stock suspension did on uneven roads. The setup does act differently at street driving (5mph to 45mph) vs. freeway speeds. going slow the struts feel like their sleeping and almost makes the car feel like it's flexing at each corner. Once you hit the freeway the suspension wakes up and the car is solid almost like your gliding.

After the alignment I was able to get the rear back into factory spec, the front is way off. A lot of people told me that flex had adjustable camber mounts for the front, but that wasn't true. Now i'm just constantly re adjusting the supsension until i get the front A-arm and another alignment

Might as well be the first to ask, since you will be bombarded later.

Wheel Brand/Model?
Wheel Size(s)/Offsets?
Tire Size(s)?
More pics?

Nice ride BTW, I'll be on the lookout for you in the HWD.

rear: 20x10 285/30/20 Falken 451 (replaced the Bridgestone S03, the falken is a lot narrower)

front: 20x9 245/35/20 Bridgestone SO3 (wearing out fast and loud)

I forgot the offset

The fuss about the flex system and ride quality has to do with physics as much as it has to do with owner review's G35's. Even 350Z owner's are on record about mentioning that the setup is too harsh and the 350Z has a firmer oem ride quality courtesy of firmer shocks then 03/04 G coupes. Even Tein's own tech people do not agree with assesment's that mention like oem ride quality. The system use's spring rates that are 114% stiffer then oem. That is more certainly NOT to say that one cannot mention a decenting opinion. I just don't want to see the suspension purchased without knowing why the other side say's what they say. I highly recommend hitching a ride and drive with someone local that has the coilovers on their car BEFORE buying the setup so you can make certain first hand where you stand.

Here is a cut & paste on a post that THX723 did responding to the idea that the flex system can or does ride like the oem suspension, he has the Flex on his, pulled from this thread. https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...highlight=flex

Subject: Re: Tein Flex and EDFC

Not a chance. Spring is fixed and 12kg/mm is 12kg/mm ... there's no way around it. Some people will tolerate this setup just fine on the softest damper rate, other will not. On the softest damper rate ... it is still leagues above the stock ride and feel.

Clint does own the Tein flex, his comments are first hand.

Adding to his comments, Tein, the company that makes the product, will tell you the exact same thing. They do not do not aggree that the ride quality is like oem. When told some flex owners claim the ride is like oem, this was the tech's responce "Your kidding right, I've driven the developement car, it's way stiffer, you can't increase spring rates like that and have the same ride quality" Fact is, you cannot escape the simply physics of employing a dramatically increased spring rate and pay no price for that. We are talking about a car that has springs that are 114% stiffer then oem. Simply does not come with the realm of subjective opinion. And, the most the flex will reduce dampning control is by 112lbs of spring rate at the absolute lowest setting, still leaves a 672lbs spring rate at all 4 corners that is being dampned at a 560lbs rate. Now the Tein CS, which use's spring rates that are only 25% stiffer then oem and dampners specifically valved for comfort, having a oem like ride quality is within the realm of possibility.

Nice. I plan on getting the same wheels!!! I did a test fit without tires on Sat. The offsets are +24 with 20 x 9(f) and 20 x 10(r). Do you have any rubbing issues? My camber is way off in the front also I plan on getting arms also. If you can PM me the price you paid for your tires I want the same sizes thanks.

very nice and i appreciate your subjective opinion on the ride quality. i too ride on tein flexes and i am on the same side of the fence with you in regards to the "harshness" of the ride. i have to say that it is a bit firmer than stock, but to me its a negligible difference, and i drive on VERY bumpy NYC roads. the dampening is tighter, you get quicker bound and rebound on all settings, but its nothing that's gonna knock the fillings out of your molars. if you read that thread in which ClintThx posted, i think i posted my thoughts on this system as well. one thing that i can definitely say is that these things take a beating and keep on going. i have about 8K on mine, drove them thru the summer of spirited driving and thru the blizzards of this past winter and now that its warm again, their performance has not faded one bit. my ONE and only negative thing to say so far is that i have a noise coming from the rear passenger side shock that i'm gona take a look at when we install the sways. i have a feeling that either the top nut is loose or we just have to place a piece of rubber to insulate any metal to metal clanking (this was a common problem for the porsche application and maybe the same problem here, i hope). other than that i've much enjoyed the system and when i finally kill them, i can send em to Tein USA to have them rebuilt unlike other coilover systems where if anything u'd have to ship em to Japan $$$. once again, u got a sweet setup and good luck with it.

gsedan35,

I understand your concern, I agree that anyone that is looking to purchase Tein flex should understand what they are getting into. Especially people that do not have any experience with after market suspension. I purchased these wanting a more aggressive suspension setup with some comfort for unexpected passengers.

I received the exact feeling I wanted out of my suspension. Ok shouldn't have used the words to describe the suspension as being possible to be tuned "just like stock". The part about no more wheel hop should be a hint to this as well. For those wanting a luxury ride, DO NOT GET FLEX. For those wanting a luxury ride I wouldn't even recommend springs because your going to be spending as much as flex or more in the long run when the struts go out. Why I purchased the flex is off of the quote, "if your going to do it right, do it right the first time". LOL I fell short with not purchasing the front camber A-arm.

dssskyline - CONGRATS! Take good care of them because I don't know how easy it is to get them anymore since SSR went bankrupt. my rear are +24 but the fronts are something different. I had +24 ordered for the front but was dissapointed that they didnt clear the brembos, after a 3 month wait.

thanks.

For this car I only wanted subtle exterior changes and no kit, so part of that was to remove all emblems. I needed to repaint the rear bumper so I pulled the grill off and took the headlights apart. Then I had the body shop paint everything at one time.

To flush the grill 2 pieces had to be made to close the gap. The pieces I had were created by an old member on this forum.
