Question Dropping the Coupe just a bad idea?

So I was thinking of lowering my G35 (most likely going with the Eibach kit), However it has occured to me that the G35 is already low to the ground and that lowering it anymore would be problematic... especially since I live in Chicago AND I drive my G35 in the winter. My question is... has anyone else lowered their coupe and had no problems? Is it a good idea? Or is it fine just the way it is?

well i personally think that i dont need a drop sincei have 19 rims on
its not even close to winter so if you wanna do it
i dont see any problem you can pull it up when you think its not right
you should give it a try.

Hey JC,

I'm in the same situation with you. Cleveland probably has worse roads than Chicago! And I have to drive her in the winter too.

I've decided that if I'm going to drop, I'll drop her with Tein h-techs. They only drop .6f/.3r. It might not be enough for some guys, but I think it will be just perfect to give me that slightly aggressive look w/o turning her into a snow plow.

The other nice thing about that small drop is that your local performance shop can adjust the camber on your stock suspension (because there is built in play from the factory) to compensate so you don't need to buy a camber kit. And your shocks won't wear out quickly too.

Sedan eibach's run on a coupe will see drop amount's reduced by .5" on the coupe. Eibach's for the sedan and for the coupe also differ in their spring rates. Both have a rate spread between initial and final, with the coupe version being more extream.

Eibach G35 Coupe progressive springs
229/337 front 274/463 rear

Eibach G35 Sedan
259/334 front 359/413 rear

Hey Ted, how's it going? Don't mean to rain on your parade here but since this guy is looking for a mild drop, getting the prokit would be a bad idea for him since the drop is pretty aggressive. Even if he used the sedan prokit on his coupe, he's still looking at around a -1.3/-0.7 drop front and back. Probably not optimal since he drives the coupe in Chicago winters.

rather your going to drop the car .5" or 3" make sure you replace the struts along with the springs.

When I did my suspension I found out why the rear was so soft. The rear struts were shot after 24k possibly sooner. The strut had no rebound. No doubt it went out fast because of the 20"s, but with 19's and 18's the suspension is also working hard to make up for the stiff walls on low profile tires.

If you're going for performance I would keep the stock ride height and do
D-Specs and swaybars only. but since im also going for dress-up i did the
entire package. i've yet to scrape anything. I don't drive my G in
the snow so it's not an issue for me either.
