350Z springs with D-Specs

I have a question for those who have lowered their cars themselves. If I buy a set of 350Z springs and a set of Tokico D-specs, can I assemble the spring/strut assembly off the car before installation therefore leaving the OEM assembly on the car? I know the rears are different. My main concerns are the fronts. I am real close to doing this on my X and want all bases covered. Also, I am pretty sure the D-specs will fit on my X. Any input?

You can if you have a second pair of mounting hats for the top of the spring/shock assembly. Otherwise you are going to have to pull the OEM assembly off and use your original mounting hat for your new spring/shock assembly.

Thatnks for the great gesture. I contacted Tokico to make sure that the D-Specs will fit. Just waiting on their reply. I do appreciate all the help and advice I have recieved on these boards. As a fairly new member to the group, I feel like I've "known" people here alot longer.

I am thinking about the same set up. Where can I get a good price for the springs and Tokicos?

Just another thought I had. If I get the 350Z springs, do I need to get D Specs made for the Z? Or, will the D specs for the G fit with the shorter springs? I have read that some shocks are longer than others. Sorry for all these questions.

Just get the D-Specs made for the Z, the DSP-7 model, if you are getting Z springs. I believe the DSP-9s are a little longer for the G35.

and you guys all think that this is the way to go??? I too am looking at this same mod on my 2005 G35 sedan, just want to see some pics of a before and after. Maybe I'll just have to "buck up" and do it myself, but I'd sure feel better seeing someone elses results first.

Just looking to see what parts everyone runs... Any reason for going with the 350Z springs over eibachs, Tiens, Etc??? Cost reasons? Better ride? Better stance??

(listening)

I just went with a similar setup on my coupe. I got D specs for the Z and S techs for the Z. I heard that if your using springs for the Z, you should get the shocks for the Z as well, or else you risk over extending the shock.

any decision rich??

hey rich... im looking for struts for my 04x and would like to know if those d-specs will fit. let me know if you go through with this setup and if these actually will fit and if there are any issues or customization on install. im currently running s-tech springs and my back bottoms out occasionally when carrying a full load. i wanna get struts all around but may end up just getting stiffer back struts if i cant find anything that fits the front.
thanks,
aaron

The tokico shocks should fit your sedan with no problem. There are several people on here that are running that setup.

He has a AWD G35X, no one with a X has changed out their oem shocks for aftermarket shocks or coilover's yet. Reason being is because the X uses a different front suspension then the RWD cars. While we know that RWD springs can and do mount up and work on the car. And we have Tokico tech's saying that the shocks will mount up fine on the X, but I'm not to sure of how they can say they KNOW this. In the end, it's going to take a X owner that has the wherewithal to be willing to try and do a install, simple as that. I for one am eagerly waiting for that to happen. Heck, I've even been trying to give away some oem parts for free to make it happen.

d-specs

does anyone have a picture of the actual d-dspec front struts...
im not too sure how the rwd struts look but i know how my x looks from installing my s-techs. the x has an axle in the front for the awd which blocks the path of the strut to the control arm. that is why it sits in a fork that curves around the axle and the fork bolts into the lower control arm. correct me if im wrong but i believe the rwd does not have an axle in the front and the strut is one piece which bolts straight up to the lower control arm. if that is true then they will not fit.

Here's a oem sedan sport shock (red) next to a oem 350Z shock.
