Pros and Cons of Coilover vs. Lowering

Hey, I was thinking of lowering my car after I get my 19" volks. I've seen a lot of talk of the full coilover kits. I was wondering what you guys thought about the advantages of going with coilovers? Since it's a LOT more expensive than just a lowering kit, is it worth it? Should I just go all out and do the coilovers, or is it not worth it to spend that kind of money if I'm not going to be showing it?

All advice appreciated.

Are you planning on taking your car out for some track or autoX action? Are you planning on Showing the car seriously?

If not, coilovers are a lot of expense for hardware you will never fully exploit.

If you are just looking for aesthetics (lower/slightly aggressive stance) then springs will do it for you.

If wants adjustability for track conditions, then coilovers are your drug of choice.

What you are planning on doing with the car (or your pocketbook) dictates what you should be modding for.

Cheers, Ted

The coilovers are good because you can lower it to the exact drop you want it to look. If you go with springs you have to hope it will drop it low enough. It's more of a guess. A lot of people get the springs and it's not as low as they hoped. Different size rims and tires are going to change the space in teh wheel well so if you have coilovers you can adjust that.

I had a drop with springs then changed to CO's. In my opinion co's are worth every penny. First, you get performance and a smooth ride. With my Tein CS, I can adjust the comfort levels in case you're in the mood for more sport on a Saturday ride down the interstate. Then go back to comfort for city driving.
Second, you are able to adjust the height to where you want it. Most cars are lower on the driver side than the passenger. The springs I had dropped it the same way. Now I have it even.
Third, with open faced wheels you can see the beautiful gold Tein CS from the side view. Straight coolness.

Reggiek, how's the ride on those Tein CS's?? I was thinking about getting them. You don't feel every pothole do you? Are they tight for handling?

personally i would go with the coilovers. i dont have them on my infiniti but i had them on my audi and loved them. my favorite parts about them were that you could adjust the height (although i never did) and theres virtually no body roll. when i just had springs i wasnt impressed with the change in body roll (although the height was where i wanted it) so that led me to the coilovers
