Repainted Curbed Wheel
Repainted Curbed Wheel
Ok so I repaired my curbed my stock 18" wheel and I found a thread on how to repair using bondo etc etc.. Here is a pic of the repainted wheel and a pic of the Stock color for comparison. As you can see the repainted one is slightly lighter, perhaps this was the result of using gray primer instead of black.. Then again, what do I know?

BTW, you'll never notice the color difference with a little brake dust mixed in!
Well, I found a link to a site that explains how to repair on this site. here is the link incase you need it. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext43.shtml
Also, I think i may keep experimenting with different colors to see if I can get a closer match. Let me know if you have any other questions about the repair..

Oh, and I just wanted to mention that WRAH helped me out big time.. I cannot take credit for it all, without his help my rims would have looked like crap. I used Plasti-Kote
1001 BRIGHT SILVER METALLIC. I think i will go back to the shop and look for something darker and experiment. I'll keep you guys posted.

Alright, thanks for the info. Is that paint dedicated wheel paint? I painted a set of rims recently using Dupli-colors' silver wheel paint, and it turned out pretty well. It's supposed to resist heat/brake dust better than regular paint, but we'll see.

Are you thinking of the caliper?

If you heat up the brakes enough, the heat will be transferred to the wheel. But obviously it still won't reach the temps associated with the brakes.
Anyway, this is what it says on dupli-color's site on the wheel paint (not advertising for them, I really could care less if anyone buys their stuff, but it seems to work for me):
Enhance your wheel’s appearance with Dupli-Color® High Performance Wheel Coating. This advanced, track-tested, acrylic enamel formula restores original wheel appearance and protects wheels.
* Rugged acrylic enamel formula
* Fast dry
* Improved resistance to brake dust, chemicals, cleaning solvents, heat and chipping
* Highly-reflective metallic finish
* Ideal for use on steel wheels, aluminum wheels, and plastic wheel coverings

Here's a small pic of the rims that I painted. I did a few light coats of silver and a few coats of clear. It's slightly darker than stock, with more metallic flakes. Nothing major, since I didn't want to mess with these guys too much.
I would also wet sand after all the painting is done, to get a super smooth finish. I used 2000 grit sandpaper, followed by paste-type polish.
Hugoboss, if you can find a good match for the stock 18" rim color, let us know.

What was awesome is that when I bought my coupe I purchased a $150 tire and wheel replacement warrenty if one was to get curbed. The warranty has no deductible and I also have it on my BMW too. I also checked into making sure it covers aftermarket wheels as well and it does. I just have to have receipts for them.
