I prefer the look of darker colors as opposed to red (and yellow ). Red looks good on a racecar but I think it attracts too much attention on a non-red, street car. A black caliper is more understated. I would rather the beautiful body lines, body color or the wheels be noticed before the calipers.

Silver can look good too.

BTW, I have had great results using Plasti-kote brake caliper paint.

I've heard that if you powdercoat the caliper, you have to disassembly the caliper and remove the seals. Supposedly, the seal cannot withstand the heat from when the powdercoat is baked.

I really would like to know if this is true or not, since I'm thinking of doing this myself (with some Wilwoods).

You heard right. The calipers need to be disassembled and rebuilt if they are getting powder coated. If you do good prep work and take your time, you can get very good results from using “over-the-counter” caliper paint products.
