HELP! Your opinions Please!!!

Here’s my dilemma… In an attempt to get a sleek/stealth, somewhat dark look on my DG sedan, I have been making some changes. Bat’s overlays on all lenses, black-chromed all emblems… and now the mistake? Wheels. I plan to get after-market later, so let’s leave that out of the equation for now. I intended to powder-coat the stocks a satin gunmetal grey. It was a cluster ***** to say the least and the color I got isn’t at all what I was looking for. It’s much darker, and to flat. Now I need to decide if I can live with ‘em till the rubber needs replaced (at which time I will get new rims), or should I make a change now. It’s been two days and I just can’t decide. I’m definitely NOT excited about them, but not sure I want to go through the whole process and expense again. BTW, all the chrome door trim and handles are going to be painted black-chrome… I’m hopping that will tie in the wheel color better (if I keep them this way.).

I have attached pics – based on the following options, please give your opinion. Thanks a bunch!

1) They look fine the way they are – leave ‘em.
2) They look fine but would be better with the center cap painted rim color
3) Have ‘em stripped and start again with a different color.

Thanks (in advance) for your opinions

sorry to admit this, but it looks pretty bad... you can of course strip them and have them redone, or you can try to sell them now and get yourself new rims/tires. but it looks pretty bad... remeniscent of a pretty decent spray-paint job, at most...

how was this done, exactly, and where?

well in my opinion if you plan on getting aftermarket rims in the near future, just deal with the painted rims the way they are, but if your not planning on buying them anytime soon and your not happy with what you have now, just get them stripped and start again with a different color, but thats just my opinion Good luck

Actually it's not at all what I like. Didn't turn out anything like I was expecting... I'm trying to determine if I can live with them, but I'm thinking not... just thought I'd get some other opinions tonight - seeing the powder coated tomorrow.

Thanks for the input!

If they had a polished lip I think they would look ok, but they just blend to much with the tires and dont really look to hott..

IMO I would go with these, I think they look gorgeous on a sedan...

^^^ those look huge...

but yeah, if they had lip, and if it was polished, they'd look good.

here's my car with LE37T: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v35-2003-06/56812-pics-my-2003-5-sedan-taken-pacific-coast-highway.html

go talk to powdercoater, strip the rims and start over if you need to. but if you're getting new rims, see if anyone will like these as they are now.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of when I got 'em (polished lip), I went to a local shop to inquire and they said it couldn’t be done because the spokes/arms of the star are curved and raised at the edge... I asked about polishing the area between each spoke and tapering off at the curve, they still said can't be done.

At Nu Tech Powder Coating in Anaheim... It's just powder coat. The center cap is stock color; I had the emblems black chromed previously.

Nu Tech is a great place and I would definitely refer them. I'm definitely happy with the quality of the work, the color and finish just didn’t turn out as I intended – not completely the fault of the powder coater... the only good news is it only took a day and a half. The story about why they are this color (and not what I was looking for) is long and boring and kinda pointless now since it's after the fact. If you want details (for whatever reason) PM me.

Thanks for the opinions everyone... They are all basically how I feel too (always good to get other owners view though).

I'm going to the powder coater today to look at much lighter colors - not sure if I'm going to re-powder or just buy new but a decision will be made soon. A suggestion in the Sedan forum was trading with someone that has stock on a dark color sedan (since they would look better on a darker car), I just don’t know if I want to keep them long enough to find someone that would interested in them... Oh well, I’ll post the new look when I get it done (unless it looks like **** again - if that happens I'll probably just drive off a cliff!!! j/k).

I'm sorry but those look terrible on that car. I say you go postal on the people that did the work. I would max out my credit cards and get rims that make me and other people go, "Damn that be the shizzzle nizzle".

I have stock wheels now, but I am looking at purchasing the all chrome HPR5. That is a question that I will post at a later time. I am having issues on 18" or 19".

Check out the link they have gun metal with a chrome lip.

OC,

I'll be honest, I don't like it. It sort of reminds me of a salvaged car that was put together for a quick sale.

Something I do like. I like your tint. I think its perfect. I do think that if you lowered your ride the look would improve quite a bit for the time being. I say lower it and when the situation allows, throw a nice set of 19s on it and it will look bad ***.

Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestions... those are all things I planned to do, just not right away... I'm wanting to finish more of my planned performance mods fist... I think I blew that idea cause now this is a more pressing issue. Haven't decided 100% if I'm ditching these and going to 18" or 19" or if I'm going to try and salvage the idea of re-PCing stock... I have a couple of things in limbo right now that will help the decision early next week.

Thanks again for all your suggestions and opinions everyone.
