help: 19" Volks or 46" DLP TV

I'm very much into rims, Volks, lug nuts, yada yada....The previous car I owned, I went through 6 sets of wheels in three years. I know some of you here know what I'm talking about. We go through rims like shoes.

I got my G35C a year ago and it still has it's stocks on. I really want RIMS! But I got older and I have to put my priorities straight.

Here's my dilemma, I want rims, probably Volks or Jlines, but I would love to have a brand new, shiny 46" DLP HDTV in my living room. I would save about $1000 by going with the TV. That money could be used to upgrade my speakers.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Depends on if you go out more or you stay at home more. Football season is coming up and having a nice TV for the games is always good.

For me I am going to mod out my car this year then next year get a TV. Slowly they are upgrading more and more to HDTV.

If you don't have HDTV at the house make sure whoever is showing you this DLP TV they show you what regular cable or regular Sat looks like because sometimes HD ready TV's really look like crap on regular broadcasts. Only looks good with HD broadcasts or DVD's.

I too would say it depends upon how much you watch TV and DVD's. If you use your TV a lot [especially for DVD's], then a big screen TV is a great experience. This past January I stepped up from a 36" tube TV to a 60" LCD RPTV, and the screen size increase was amazing. I am really amazed at how different movies look [I watch a lot of DVD's] on a bigger screen.

On the flip side though, displays that use the newer technologies, like DLP, LCoS, LCD, etc., are coming down in price all the time. While wheel costs seem to be relatively steady. In other words, if you don't need the new TV right now, you could get the wheels first, and then in the future get a similar TV for less money.

I agree with the guys... If you watch more TV than drive the G... I would get the TV... it's all up to you... Because I don't even drive my car but I still bought the rims for anything else... I think rims are a most have...

get the rims. digital light processing tv's are nice, but rims are better! which DLP you had in mind?? well, it's 50/50 imo. a house is pimp, not a car.

Thanks for your responses. Though, I wasn't trying to get an "answer" from you folks, but merely to bring up a dilemma most of you are probably going through too.

TV
Pro: Last long and will get more use, can share with the wife
Cons: Just sits there unwatched for more than half the day since I'm at work most of the time, technology changes.

RIMS
Pro: Nice shiny, bling, seperates me from the crowd
Cons: Expensive, can get damaged or stolen

I just got a samsung 50" DLP, and i would say if you plan to get your TV, get it at costco, the best deals in town. As for the rims or TV... thats hard, choose what you would enjoy the most.

Get a plasma! I was just on Consumer Reports yesterday researching DLP's vs. plasma and the picture on the Samsung got really low ratings and the best picture all around was plasma. You have to remember that most of the things you are watching are still regular junk cable and you need a tv that makes this junk signal look not so junky! I'm eying the Dell 42'' for $3000 right now.

I have a 46" Samsung DLP and I love it.Even my mom in law loves it.
Get the tv and drive the G so fast no one can even see what kind of rims you got. Have the roller and the home!

Get the first 1080p DLP TV

Samsung HLR5688W

This is the world's first true High Definition DLP TV (has 1080 vertical lines progressive). All other rear projections (LCD, LCOS, DLP) scale down the true 1080p high def signal to 720p or 768p which is one reason their pictures are not as crisp as high def tube TVs.

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,119220,00.asp

The only thing better would be a 1080p plasma, but then you could buy the Volks and a Twin Turbo setup for that price.

Buying advance technology TV is the same as buying a up-to date computer, in 2 years, the thing will be a grand, or two cheaper. At the same time, you've got to enjoy life at home, so TV is better than having wheels. I would only buy wheels, if my car is parked in a garage, use it as weekend car and avoids rain. If you drove everyday, you can be hit from vandalism, curbing, or from accidents. Buying wheels is a hassle, especially waiting for it, then hoping that it is balanced. In the end, what made me happy is that I have Volks on my weekender, so whatever makes you happy is the way to go.
