Help - Tire size for 19's on sedan

Need help. I'm getting conflicting information from Wheelmax and Discount Tire. Looking at getting 19x8.5 all the way around and Wheelmax is pushing a 235/35/19 which is small according to the Miata site and small according to Discount Tire which is pushing a 245/40/19. What do you guys think? I tend to trust Discount and the Miata site, but Wheelmax won't even mount the wheels to the 245/40's...and as luck would have it, they are selling the wheels cheaper than Discount.

Also, any opinions on staggering for the sedan? What am I really losing by not being able to rotate?

Any advice would be much appreciated...

D

1) if you are going w/ an 8.5 in rim, the optimal size is going to be 245/35, basically a split of what the two stores were telling you;

2) Staggering is hot, and it actually doesn't affect the life of your tires as much when you move up to high performance tires - basically, it's overrated, and in my opinion I would go staggered if possible (9.5" in the rear w/ 275/35 tires - offset is the key, though)

3) Good Luck! I hope your happy w/ whatever you decide!

Re: Help - Tire size for 19's on sedan

Sorry can't help with tire size, but I can give you a warning. I just purchased 18" ADR's from Wheelmax and what they don't tell you and don't even sell with their wheels, is the "Hub Centric Ring" you will need to keep your car balanced properly. What a pain in the A$$!!!!! I spoke with them today and they told me the reason they can sell the wheels for such a low price is because they only sell bulk wheels and not the hub adaptors you will need to make them fit properly. Man I'm pissed!!! Wheelmax knows this, but neglected to tell me to make a sale, so know I'm calling all over the country trying to find a set. Even called ADR, but they told me they can't sell them to me because I'm just "John Q citizen" and I have to find a dealer. So I call Wheelmax back thinking they can order them for me through ADR, but no such luck. So, anyway be sure whoever you order your wheels from supplies the hub centric ring to keep your car balanced. After my conversation with them and even other complaints they told me about, they are now well aware of this and should tell G owners about this centering ring before they sell you wheels that are not hub centric.

I assume this only applies to specific wheels and which car they are being installed on? I was looking at the 19" M-sports...

Thanks for the info...I'll be sure to ask...

After reading both your experiences, I'm not too sure Wheelmax regards customer service as important enough.

Not selling and not even mentioning to one customer that hubcentric rings are needed for their wheels, and refusing to sell another customer the tires he wants, in fact recommending tires that IMO seems too narrow. Sounds like they trying to get rid of tire inventory on hand.

The stock 17x7 come with 215's, 18x8 with 245's, and they're recommending a 235 on an 8.5" rim? Sounds like it'll fit but only just. Do they think you have an Accord or something, the size they're recomending is equivalent to a 205/65/15, a popular size for that class of cars.

I was going to purchase a set of the M-Sports from them, but now I'm beginning to wonder if there are other Wheelmax stories out there? I'd rather buy elsewhere and spend a couple hundred more on a set of wheels, than go through the hassle the guys above are getting.

The guys at Wheelmax claimed they would not mount the 245/40's for safety issues...they said they there might be rubbing which seemed kinda odd. I'm sure I've read of guys on this list installing larger tires/wheels with no lowering and no problems.

I have 255/45/17s on my sedan, with no problems at all. They fit perfectly. Check it out:

Sorry, here are more specifics.

Their concern might be with the width of the rim, but I don't know for sure. Here's what I got:

Enkei 17"x8"
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 255/45/17

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the post and pics....car looks great. What about with a loaded trunk or passengers? Still no problems?

With 2 passengers I had no problems and with a loaded trunk I didn't either. There's enough clearance for me to lower it 2" and still have no problems. I think I might go the 1.1 route with the Eibachs though.
