We used to get a thread started like this every once in a while on the Maxima.org forum ... and someone had a great one liner on them:

"Life expectancy of Turanzas" ... Your's or the tires'?

They are the worst OEM tire put on any car next to the Potenza RE92. I bought my Max with them and replaced them after 400 miles - they are hazardous to your health!

As for snow - you are killing me, literally, if you think of driving with those on!

Reviews on the Avon's indicate the most common complaint is "out of roundness" which would be a contributor to vibration. Some customers have had to return 3 out of 4 tires (under warranty)

Back on topic... my EL42's have 52,000 km (32,000 mi) on them and are in desperate need of being replaced. Experiencing some hydroplaning on extreme wet roads -- won't perform in snow at this point.

I have 30k on the OEM's, and I was eyeing these for Michigan driving:
Kumho ECSTA ASX - 235/50WR17's
Only $106 a piece on TireRack. Any opinions on the size OR brand?

Just recently changed over to these tires and I LOVE THEM!!! They also have a very aggressive tread pattern IMHO so they look good too. I got the 245/40WR18's though. I would recommend them and TireRack as well. The service was wonderful and they went out of their way to make sure we had all the info we needed. Good luck on whichever ones you get.

I just put on a set of Firehawk Wide Oval 235/50/17 to replace the OEM Turanza EL42. I'm very happy with them, lots more grip, no squealing and much better looks. They are not an all season tire but an ultra high performance tire with a high (320) treadwear rating. I got them for $117/ea at a Firestone shop but I had them match an online tire distributor's online price to get the 117 which was much lower than retail. Highly recommended. Haven't tried them in the wet yet.

Forgot to mention my stock EL42's only had 13,000 miles on them but I found them sloshy and soft in hard cornering. I didn't notice them being bad in the wet. If anyone wants them they're available cheap. They have perfect wear and are in great shape all around.
