I have a 03.5 Sedan with original Turanzas. I keep expecting to need to replace them but they seem to still have decent tread remaining. I have 3 years and 55K miles on them.

For those of you with Turanzas, how long have they lasted for you?

Also, we get a little snow where I live.....if the tread is at all iffy would you recommend replacing before winter hits?

I'd think you'd want to replace them before winter.....not doing so puts you at risk for racking up your car around a telephone pole or hitting a guide rail. You'll probably need new tires in the spring anyways....right? Why don't you give it the Abe Lincoln penny test? If you put the penny in the tread, with his head upside-down and can see this entire head, then rule of thumb is you need new tires. Just my $0.02.

Mine have 29K and they still have way too much tread. I may take them to the auto-x to put them in the grave. These damn tires are holding my car back.

 

I have 45K on mine. Going to swap out in the sping time though. I don't really feel safe in the snow or rain. I will drive my Jeep as soon as the fall hits and snow for this winter.

 

That is amazing they have lasted you that long. I have a 03 with 58K miles and I originally had a set of Goodyear Eagle GS-Ds, already went through those, and then put on a set of the Turanza's of which I am already on my second set for the rear.

...actually be sure you're talking about EL42's cos I heard the other ones weren't so bad.

 

Took those GOD AWFUL tires off when I got new rims! They still look brand new but I will only use them if I have NO other choice whatsoever. I can't believe that anyone would buy these tires if they had a choice of anything else.

 

Yes, I was referring to EL42's.

 

I couldn't wait to get those things off. They felt downright dangerous to me in the rain. I don't think they made it to 20K. I took the DaveB route and tracked them on a 90 degree day. "See honey, look how those awful tires chunk up. I need new ones if you want our children to be safe. Z-rated too since I might go fast."

According to the "penny test" my tires are still fine.....but I agree that I haven't felt great about these tires in the snow/rain since they were brand new. I'll probably go ahead and switch them out before the snow season starts.

 

Here in Oklahoma I haven't had bad enough weather to really notice problems yet.

In the 2 years (as of the 23rd) I've had my car, there has only been snow/slush on the ground once, a couple inches last winter when I went on the turnpike, but there was enough traffic that only when I changed lanes did I have to worry about slush. It held up better than I expected.

My previous experience with RWD cars in snow date back 16 years, and the cars then weren't as well balanced front/rear as the G35 is, as well as not having VDC, so I'm hopeful for the future

 

mine lasted me around 42k with a little tread left, but last winter was not a fun one. Ive recently purchased 18s with summer tires and i am putting winter tires on the stock 17s for this winter. The el42s have good tread life but the traction is where they lact.

 

Replaced my original EL42's at 12k miles, bald.

Replaced the replacement Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's at 26k miles, bald with cord showing through.

My avatar icon is jacked up at the moment, but it's supposed to be a picture of the car at an autocross event. That may have something to do with the short tire life I seem to experience...

Now running on a set of Kumho ECSTA ASX's. I have a second set of rims now with Kumho Victoracers for autocross, so perhaps the street tires will give me some real treadlife this time.

The only good thing I can say about the Turanza EL42 is that it's very progressive at the limit.. breaks free gradually and is easy to recover from a spin. That limit comes way too early, though.

 

My EL 42's are just about at the end of their useful life at only 23,000 miles...Thank God!! Pretty short lifespan based on only moderately aggressive driving....primarily highway. I'll be ordering Avons 550's from Tire Rack soon.
