What does bottoming out mean and how do you know if you have this problem? Any help would be appreciated!

when the rod/piston becomes fully compressed. you will hear/notice a sound as if you're running without any spring/shock/strut. a dead shock. when bottoming out, your cd may skip as well. when this occurs, get new ones asap because you can damage other suspension components.
