Any problem with going wide tires on stock car?

I know many people go wide on tires, especially ones with big HP, to achieve more traction to the ground. But is there any problem with going wide, such as 245/285 or even 255/295 on a stock G?

Disregarding the likeliness of heavier rims, any disadvantage performance wise? How will the ride quality compare?
