Snow Wheel and Tire Packages

I just recently bought an '05 coupe with the 19's just wondering what is my best option for buying wheels and tires for the winter. Also anyone have any stories about the coupe in the snow ? Just wondering if it has to sit in the garage all winter long

Thanks
Eric

no way (on storing)! just throw some good quality winter's on and go snowmobiling. i did it last winter and will be doing it this winter as well. run a search for tires. i'm personally running 17's with pirelli 210's.

Check out TireRack.com. They finally have tire and wheel packages figured out for this season. Been waiting a few months for some direction to go in for my 6MT!

Buy a new set of tires *and* wheels off tirerack.com. I recommend 17's for winter driving.

I have Blizzak's on ASA JH3's (look kind of like the 18" coupe wheels), but the Dunlop M3 tires are supposedly really good.

I had no problems driving around in the New England blizzard last year, so be careful and have fun! =)

I havent had my G for a winter yet... I live in Canada... I'm a little worried... Would it be a bad idea to put my snow tires on 18s rather than 17s?

Size Questions

Bear with me I know nothing about cars...

With the 19's on the 05 there's no problem going down to a 17"?...like the brake size or anything. Also my dealer was telling me someting about sensors that could get messed up if you change rims...anybody know?

Also with the tire width...my stock ones are 225 front 245 back.. does that matter or can i just buy new wheels with a different one ?

Thanks haha

no if you go to 17s there will be no problems. Just make sure you get the proper offset. Tirerack has the wheels that will work with the car.

YOur dealer is telling you something but not evetything. Your 19s have the presure sensor on it. If your tires going flat, then your dash light will come on indicating a problem. If you remove your tires that means the sensors are not on and if you have a flat then computer will not know.
Your dealer is just giving you missinfomation.

As far as width... i would go 225 front 235 rear. Winter tires are not suppose to be wide the narrow the snow tires the better. Obviously this is true for heavy snow conditions, but the 225/235 will work fine

Is there a real difference in winter driving between 18s and 17s for winter tires? I've already searched and haven't really come up with something conclusive.

Thanks

there is a price difference

only reason why someone would go for 18s is to make sure he can clear the calipers. Otherwise its snow tires why do they have to be big for.

I've just picked up my 05 6MT coupe and will be putting on 18" MSR's with Blizzak LM22's.

I'm going 235/45/18 all around. I was told by many that a staggered snow is not necessary. Also, by not staggering you can rotate the witners every year and get some more life out of them.

I had a hard time deciding on 17 vs 18, but I was able to get a deal that got me the 18's for $190CAD more. Most were recommending the 17's, but for the extra $$ I did not see a problem with upsizing.

By the way, do a search on winter / snow tires and there are a lot of threads already started.

Believe me there is nothing conclusive. Trust your instinct and driving style.

the problem with going with the larger wheel is you sacrifice sidewall...And in the winter I will give up the size of the wheel for some extra tire any day....less of a chance of a blow-out on a winter induced pot-hole...
