Yokohama AVS ES100

I am currently considering changing my tires to the Yokohama AVS ES100. I want some opinions or sugggestions about this tire.

What kind of size should I use and would fit?
235/45 R17
245/45 R17
225/40 R18
235/40 R18
245/40 R18

17 or 18?

Is this tire worth changing?

Should I get new rims? (considering Volks Racing TE37)

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

I want to use either 17 or 18. I am not saying 19 are useless but i like 18 or 17 better.

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

I would not sugeest that Yoko. Look at the tire rack and read the reviews-its does not get very high marks. The price is close to other tires that rate better. So looking at other tires might be in your best performance and monitary intrest.

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

IQ9 wut would u suggest then?? This Yoko is about $85 and its rating is better than the Dunlop FM901 and of course the Turanza. Of course this cannot compare with the Pilot Sports or S-03.

Look at the Conti Extreme Contact. Rates well and has a 400 wear rating-money in the long term bank.

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

I hated Conti's as well but I put them on my uncle's Bimmer and I AM IMPRESSED. Beat the hell out of the Pilots which I bought 3 weeks before I got him the Conti's. He has a Mercedes friend and thats what those guys are raving about. Keep in mind this is bang for the buck logic.Keep in mind that I am only refering to the Extreme Contct A/S tire no other Conti. If you don't need all season tires then look at Kuhmo 712s-nosiy but cheap and grip like super glue.

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

Im a bit suprised by the ratings. The es100 has quickly become a very popular tire in the sport compact market (acura RSX-s) is the best example. It has also got stunning reviews from ls1 owners (Camaro, SS, Trans Am, etc) which are putting down 310 to the wheels in stock trim. I had the opportunity to beat up on these and many other tires at a recet ride & drive with Porsche Boxters and have to say it was the best bang for the buck tire I drove that day.

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

I have drive several Civics with the tire and it only felt like a grease ball. The tires had between 300 and 1900 miles on them so they were well past the break in. But tires can vary and a set of 712 will spank most tires for the first 7k and after that they turn to $hit soon after. I have AVSs on a 91 SL and I like them but bang for the buck appears to be a tie for the 712s & the Yokos

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

i'v had contisport, they were great in the rain but okish in the dry...after About 3,000miles the dry traction jus lost its touch....the wet was still good...but i prefer the es100's...or if u want to go all the way get some good year F1 1tred tires...those are #1 street/dry/wet/ tires out there...because they stick to the ground when they warm up like crazy...and i never got to test their wet ability but i hear its top notch aswell...

are you going to auto X? or street driving? drag?

because the wheels and tire combo is very important...

if u plan to auto X i'd say get as light as wheels as u can find and slicks.... that will cut about 2 seconds on ur runs...

Re: Yokohama AVS ES100

I am not going to Auto-X my car but I do some aggressive street driving. I am not really sure which ones to choose but if I am getting new wheels, it must be the TE37. I kind of lean towards Yokohama since its is always used in any kind of races. All the cars in Japan liek to use Yokohamas because they are not expensive but they got good abilities. Pro drivers like to drift with them and I heard the Yokohama A048 is very very good. Too bad its not sold here.
