It isn't thats why so many people are against it in this thread, but if someone wants to go against everyone's advice they can, its just not going to make very much of a difference if at all

Red, what tire size would you recommend that would be larger than the OEM 225/245 setup?

245/35/19 and 255/40/19. It'll get rid of a little bit of the understeer issue inherent in the OE sizes, and the rear will only be slightly taller than stock

Based on this data, the choice is clear...bump up the 225/40/19's in the front to 255/35/19.

I'm very curious as to why no one on the forums has suggested this, if the calculations make it so evident that it's the correct way to go.
Because doing that will do zero for affecting your speedometer readout... Your speedo is not connected to your front tires. The speed is measured at the output shaft of the transmission. That means, only the rear tires affect your speedo readout.

If it was deemed "safe" by the manufacturer for an 8.5" wheel, they would've said 8.5". Why do people want to second guess the manufacturer? Out of spec, is out of spec. Perhaps bulging tires makes the tire run much hotter than normal, making the tire more prone to failure/blow-out/etc. Just because it "looks ok", doesn't mean it is. And you can be sure if you get in a wreck because your tire fails, insurance will tell you to screw off. It's like storing gasoline next to your furnace, and when your house burns down, you try to claim it on your insurance....

Perhaps I should keep summer tires on my car, and try to run them when it's cold and rainy outside... Or run 85 octane gas, the knock sensors will take care of it... Heck, I'll run Type-F transmission fluid, because tranny fluid should be tranny fluid......

Ok, I'm stepping off my soap-box now

madscientist,

How do you like your tires? Anyone else put on 275/35's on the rear with the stock 19s?

The guy who put 275's in the rear said he had to make some camber adjustments to correct the footprint. (https://g35driver.com/forums/showpos...2&postcount=61)
If you want to do that, go ahead. But the overwhelming majority of people think that 255/40 in the rear is the widest you should go on the stock 19"s.
Trust me, two weeks ago I went through the same kind of anxiety and research that you're doing, and based on all the advice I received, and my own research, 245/35/19 and 255/40/19 is the best choice if you're going to bump up from a size larger than stock. It will affect your speedometer only very slightly.

275's on OEM rims........?

You may have already purchased the 275's but to be quite frank it's a
mistake! The 245's are fine for the front but stick with 255's out back.
Tire buldge isn't a good thing and the footprint you'll be putting down won't
be the whole tire width. I've got 275's on a 10 1/2" rim and the fit is perfect.

...now what!?

Just when I thought it was OK to get the 275's...Everyone seems to be conflicting with each other. I guess thats why people just stick to the stock sizes! lol I haven't bought the tires yet though...

So, having 245/35 up front and 255/40 rear doesn't affect the VDC?? The height is increased by 8mm in the back and decreased by 8mm in the front.

Here's the height for all mentioned sizes:

225/40-19 front 663mm (stock)
245/40-19 rear 679mm (stock)

245/35-19 front 655mm (-8 from stock)
255/40-19 rear 687mm (+8 from stock)
-Total difference from stock 16

255/35-19 front 661mm (-2 from stock)..don't know if 255 would work up front
275/35-19 rear 675mm (-4 from stock)
-Total difference from stock 2

245/35-19 front 655mm (-8 from stock)
275/35-19 rear 675mm (-4 from stock)
-Total difference from stock 4

Running 255's has less to do with stagger, and more to do with the acceptable tire widths for a 8.5" wheel. Ideally, a 275/35/19 would be in the rear rather than a 255/40/19, but thats for a wheel that is at least 9" in width, not the case for the OEM sizes

And Tire Rack is Dead Wrong See attched Michelin Sheet. Notice the section width is 10.9" for a 275/35/19.
