It's time for new tires, due to a damn screw in the back tire and normal ware and tear. I currently have stock 18" wheels with 225/45 and 245/45 Michelin Pilot Sport tires. What do you guys think the best tire out there for dry/wet driving? I saw some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and they look like they can grab the road. I do not have much knowledge on tires at all and any info. would be appreciated. Thanks

S03's, GS-D3's, maybe the G-Force.

Car and Driver has a performance tire comparison in the December issue. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 took first out of 11 tested. The Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 took 5th, beating several more expensive tires. FYI

I have a 03 coupe with 18" wheels and would like to know if there is room to put on 245/40/18 and 225/40/18's instead of the factory spec 245/45/18's. Tried searching the net with no help. Thanks for any advice.

 

They will fit the wheels and not rub anywhere but the tire diameters will now be shorter than the OEM size. When changing tire sizes, you should stay within 3% or less of the OEM size designed for the car. The OEM size of 245/45/18 measure 26.7" whereas 245/40/18 measure 25.7" and 225/40/18 measure 25.1". Both of these sizes are >3% difference so I wouldn't do it. Just my opinion though. You can take this information and do whatever you want. Hope this helps.

i am not a big fan of goodyear but next tire change, i am going for goodyear for sure.

got a quick question, is there a michelin PS2 225/245 setup for oem 19s?
i looked online but they dont have PS2.

 

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's do not come in 225/24/18 for the stock wheel. Looks like the Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Position's better suit the stock 18" wheel.

A few drifters here use them sparingly. In extreme terms, the s03 chunk off under sever stress...the DZ101, like the RT615 shed nicely. They heat up nicely and give predictable grip on the street. The price are nice too, not at all THAT expensive.

Falken GR-Beta tires are pretty good too. I had them mounted on the stock rims at 235/40/18 (F) and 255/45/18 with no problems...I've since changed the rear one step to 265/35 to help keep the the back end controllable when I roadraced on on them. They're not better than DOT R-compounds, but better than your A/S tires. IMO, better than the oem Pilots. Wet weather traction is exceptional, I never had problems with hydroplaning at moderate speeds. They integrated some kind of ridge protector to protect with curbing - I thought that was pretty nice. They're not as sticky as S03's but, they'll last longer.
