G35C suspension questions
My ideal setup would be 19s and a subtle drop like the eibach prokit. This will be my first lowered car and I need some information before I choose the right setup for my G35C. I come with a offroad background and own a heavily modified Jeep Cherokee, so I know what it means to do something right the first time especially with suspension setups. The Eibach prokit only comes with springs which is a concern for me, because it just doesn't seem complete to me. Don't you need shocks, adjustable camber kits, etc. so basically in the long run I'd have to purchase these parts. I will not accept excessive tire wear since tires are very expensive to replace. I briefly looked at the front of the G35C and notice that it has coilovers (coils surrounding the shocks), I can't see the rear so I don't know how it's setup so what's the benefit of a coilover setup? I've read that a tein setup can adjust spring height, but wouldn't that mean you have to get an alignment everytime you lower and raise the car? Basically I'm looking for a complete kit that I won't have to worry about tinkering with all the time. I would like to have more of a comfortable ride then performance, without any problems. The price of the eibach prokit seems tempting, but it feels like you need to spend more to do it right the first time.

Re: G35C suspension questions
We've had nothing but good reviews from G35/350Z pro kit owners. A standard alignment after the subtle drop is all it takes to get it correct. A few drivers have opted to also buy a camber kit later down the line (those who race mostly). Coil overs are great for adjustibility. Pick a setting you like for every day, and slam it for shows. As long as you come back to your every day setting your alignment should be fine..although your pocket book may suffer a bit. You are right, setting up a good suspension is important. For me. (camaro SS) I chose to do springs, as well as 8 way adjustable shocks. My stockers couldnt handle the drop. Everyone of you guys who chose eibach say the ride is not only better, but performance has increased as well. The 350Z guys complained a lot about porpousing, or a floating/bouncing feeling before the eibachs. That allievated that problem for them. Im not sure if the Gs suffered from a similar feeling.

so do I need shocks for the eibach prokit? If so, who makes good shocks and how much are they?

Re: G35C suspension questions
A general misconception is that springs are used for lowering the car. Even though it is one of the results in changing springs to shorter ones with higher rates, in my opinion, the "right" way should almost always involve new shocks. When would it not involve the replacement of shocks? Depends on the manufacturer of the shocks. For example, with TEINs you can vary the springs on the same shock as much as +/- 50 lbs/in (it might even be +/- 100lbs/in, I do not recall exactly on top of my head).
I am not sure what that range is for the stock G shocks, but take the TEIN range as an example. if the "lowering" springs rate are within that range, then I would imagine that you'd be fine.
However, if you have needs beyond the "looks" of the vehicle; such as performance driving, track days, auto-x, etc. you'd be better off with coil-overs. My recommendation for those would be TEIN and JIC.

Re: G35C suspension questions
bkchang,
The Stock front set up on the G is not a coilover. A coil over suspension is one that is adjustable. Usually the Shock has a Threaded Body that Has a Large "Nut" that can be Adjusted either Up or Down By A Large Wrench or Wrenches that are provided by the Company. However a drawback with this type of set up is there are usally 2 "Nuts" that are tightened together. This can lead to Jammed Spring Perches. Besides you need Both Hands and Wrenches to turn each "Nut" One Company that has solved this problem and you can use 1 Hand to turn the "Nut" is Ground Control, They supply you with the Threaded Sleeve that you place over the Stock Shock And you twist it together. Their Springs are Made By Eibach so the Are 1st Quality. However Some Racing Purists Frown on such a system as Being "Cheesey" Such a Suspension Kit is Usually around $200- $500 It has Major Advantages over Regular Springs because they are Adjustable up or Down, HOW LOW Do you want to go? A few simple twists will place You Scrape the Ground ZAMBONI style. Likewise a few simple twists will bring you back up. Major convience for Shows or If you get Popped for Lowered car By tha MAN. If you Want the Full Blown Coil over set up. I reccomend the HKS LS Hyper Coilover. The LS stands for Luxury Sport Meaning that you will get A Smooth Unbouncy UnJarring ride Yet still have the Much Improved Handling you desire. An Added Bonus is the "Pillow Ball" mount this allows you to adjust the Camber and Caster Fully with out any additional kits. Better Handling and Better Wear for you tires. However the HKS is Around $1,800 Hope this Lengthy Post helps you decide which Suspension is best and Afordable for You GOOD LUCK....

Re: G35C suspension questions
Of all the suspension systems I have installed, I have to give Tein Japan thumbs up in top quality. I've installed HKS, JIC, Ground Control, Skunk2, Blitz, Apexi, and Tanabe coilovers...........feedback from customers, myself and installer's notice of product quality, fitment, company attention to minor details (paint overspray, welding, weight, etc.) are all conditions that we noticed in determining quality of product and thus far, Teins are to our opinion the one of the best coilover system out on the market for Japanese cars.
