Tires Feathering????

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced tire feathering on their G's? I started hearing a lot of noise from the tires at about 11,500 miles. I searched this site for any reported issues but did not see anything. When I asked 2 dealers about tire feathering on my 05 coupe they said that it was normal wear because of the way the cars suspenstion is designed.

The noise I am hearing sounds exactly like the one I heard on my 03 350z when it started having problems with the tires feathering. I called Infiniti and told them about the issues I am having, they said they have not heard of anything so far, so if anyone else is having this problem please let me know and also call Infiniti, I had a nightmare with Nissan trying the get the same issue resolved and eventually traded my z in for a 05 G35 coupe. I know these tires are good for about 20,000 miles, but to hear this much noise over my radio at 11,500 miles is not normal....alignment is fine.

AG.

Try searching again, I've seen more then a couple of threads on the noise and feathering. I'm at 20k miles, and just inspected my front tires, and did notice slightly more wear on the inside of the tire. My dealer told me it is probably due to alignment, and that Infiniti covers that only up to 12K, so I'm out of luck, and I would have to pay to have alignment done. Talk to you dealer again, try to have them re-do your alignment and ask what happens if this doesn't help.
I have winters on now, but I think I'll rotate the fronts from left to right in spring before I put them back on, it supposedly helped a few people with noise problems.
Good luck.

Once you get a wear pattern in your tires, you cant undo the damage...even if the alignment is adjusted. Sounds to me like your Camber is out of whack. by design, these cars have positive camber and will wear the edge faster, over time.

If your alignment shop isn't the best, you may need to either find another one or get camber kits....

Damn, I had the same problems on my 350z, but fortunately I was able to get Nissan to buy back the Z before I bought the G35. Sucks that you had to trade it in and lose money on the whole thing.

I have inspected my tires and I have not noticed any uneven wear. The tires are making a lot of noise and it is getting annoying. I just swapped out the summer tires for my winters and the noise has gone away. I am going to have Infiniti realin the car. I am at 7200 miles

I'm at 9,400 miles with even wear. The tires, OEM 19" Bridgestones, are noisy. I've had Bridgestones on previous cars and they were also noisy. I'll be looking for another, hopefully quieter brand, when I replace them.

I have a 03 6MT w/66K. 2ND set of tires were Bridgestone SO 3's. The 2 rear tires went south at 16k, replaced them with Dunlop Dizerra. The 2, SO 3's that were left on the front started feathering, & the roar was so loud you couldn't hear the BOSE. WILL NOT BUY BRIDGESTONES AGAIN. The winter tires are on now, & no roar. Will replace the front with Dunlops in the spring & see how they do.

Yes my brother's Coupe has this issue and it appears to be the same problem as the Z's experienced with their front suspension.

After multiple wheel alignments, and sets of tires, he has gotten no support from repeated querries to Nissan and now is selling his Coupe.

I took my coupe to Nissan and had them align it since they seem to deal with it more with the Z, now the alignment is spot on.

You took your G to a nissan dealership and they aligned it for you? Did you have uneven wear before you took it in and have you replaced the tires? and if so has the noise gone away??

Thanks,

AG

I have the sports package with the 19" wheels. Will a camber kit help me and if so has anyone had a camber kit installed in the DC, VA, MD area?

Thanks,

AG

My tires are noisy as hell but no feathering. I have Pilot Sports and they are just plain loud.
