Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
I was curious as to what everyone thinks about the Goodyear RSA tires that come with the USA G sedans.
I just baught a set of 5 spoke wheels and tires from the US with RSA tires and wanted to get some feedback on them.
thanks.

My car came with the 17" Bridgestone Turanza....What is up with that? I have even seen others locally with the same sport wheels and a differant tire. I like the tires I have but I think they squeel unnecessarily when pushed hard.

Stay away from the the RS-A. (may be too late for you)
It is an average all-season tire in general, but it squeals easily. Also, the treadwear is horrible for this category.
If you live south of the snowbelt, you may want to go with an ultra-high performance tire for dry and wet driving only.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
There currently are only three tires available from any tire mfg. in 215/55-17. Goodyear GS-D summer performance, Goodyear RS-A all-season high performance, and Bridgestone Turanza EL42 touring tire.
I've driven G35s with all three tires back to back. The GS-D is noisier, but has somewhat better turn-in response and traction. The Turanza EL42 is very smooth and quiet, but has somewhat less crisp turn-in and ultimate grip, although it seemed OK to me. The RS-A is somewhere in between.
225/50-17 and 225/55-17 will fit the stock rims, at a speedo error of about 2% minus and plus, respectively. At this size the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is available, as are a few others. See www.tirerack.com for details.
Maybe in time other tires will be available in 215/55-17.

I know that going to a 225 from a 215 will probably improve the road feel and handling somewhat. Does it have much of an impact on gas mileage in anyone's experience?

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
I put 225/55-17 Michelin Sport Pilot A/S tires on my G35. The gas milage decreased about 15%. However some of that is artificial due to speedo error (each indicated mile is more than a real mile, because the tires are slightly larger diameter). Factoring this out, maybe about 10% worse gas milage.
They handle better but the car is more sensitive to road crown regarding pulling left and right.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
Thanks joema. The Michelins were exactly what I was considering. Is the better handling immediately noticeable? I know many are considering even wider tires, but many already complain about the present gas mileage which I actually think isn't bad for a big six. The G's performance is such that it's hard to go easy with the right foot!
Would you do it again or would you wait for something else to come out in a 215/55-17?

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
I'd describe the difference as "somewhat noticible". The sidewall height is slightly greater, so this may explain the good ride (for an ultra-high perf tire), but may reduce steering response slightly. Another G35 owner got the same tire in 225/50-17, and seemed to have a bigger improvement in handling, but more noise and a slightly rougher ride.
I don't know why the new tires made my car more sensitive to road crown regarding pulling left and right. I don't like that feeling. The other guy didn't report this.
Based on my experience, I'd suggest waiting until other tires come out in 215/55-17. While there are better tires, the G35 in the Road & Track article had RS-A tires and won several of the traction-related tests. So it can't be all that bad.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
You might want to consider upgrading to a 235/50/17 tire---this will work properly on the 7" wide rim and fits on the G35 with no clearance problems (per TireRack), and has more tire options available--especially high performance tires. Plus, you're putting a bigger contact patch on the road. Note that this size creates almost no speedo error compared with the std. 215/55/17.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
I have Eagle RS-As on my Infiniti I30 and don't think they are all that great. If you want an awesome tire, consider the Yokohama AVS Sports. I had those on my 3000GT. They rock.
Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
I've heard that Infiniti claims the 235/50R17 won't clear the suspension on the front. Anybody else hear anything about this?

Re: Goodyear Eagle RSA tires performance ?
I'm picking up my Coupe tomorrow and soon will mount my Yokohama AVS winters that I've had for over a month. You sound like you know the tires well- care to share any experience? They're not cheap but came highly recommended. Any tips on pressures, whether better in wet or dry good on snow and or ice, etc.. Thanks for any help. As I said I'm wondering what to expect ..............
