Winter tires
Winter tires
Here is what may be a dumb question. I went an bought winter tires for my G35 sedan right after it last snowed. Of course, it hasn't snowed since (but may later this week). In the meantime, it is supposed to be 60 degrees here tomorrow. Does the higher temperatures damage/weaken the tires?
Driving in 60 degree weather for one day will not mess up your winter tires. However, if you continue to use them into summer as the temperature goes up, you will lose tread faster. I would not worry about driving them in mild temperature, just keep them on until your area gets warming temperature on a consistent basis again.
It will not damage the snow tires. They will just wear out a little faster with warmer temps on dry pavement. A set of snow tires should last 15-20k miles driven lightly during winter temps. If you were to drive on the same tires during summer, they will last a lot less due to the softer compound.
Thanks everyone. It was one of those things - my wife was royally pissed that I bought a rear-wheel drive car when it snowed here. She basically insisted I get the snow tires, and of course it hasn't snowed since. Exactly what I figured would happen.
