I came across this article doing some research on tires for drivers schools. It's from a Bimmer newsletter and the article is a few years old, but it's got really useful info and charts about the trade offs in handling of different DOT-R tires, and impact on speed and handling of changing tire sizes. Also includes commentaries about different tires used by guys that do BMW club racing--couple of those guys have been my instructors at driver schools.
