ATTN: Volk owners. Lip discoloration?

I saw this thread on my350z.com about discoloration on the lip of one of their lips:

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166662
http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170254

these pics are from the thread pics:
http://www.my350z.com/forum/attachme...5&d=1139354755
http://www.my350z.com/forum/attachme...6&d=1139354755

I was looking at my wheels earlier today, and I noticed a reddish tint (as displayed in the pictures) on the lip of one of my wheels. I got these wheels 2 weeks ago.

Anyone else notice this on their Volks?

well they do use a clearcoat on the lips so i wonder if its just bad reflection or a problem when they spray

could be exposure to certain chemicals as well. i've heard horror stories from volk owners taking their cars to the machine/hand wash.

First off aren't the lips polished and not clearcoated? Second thing is what is the deal with paying $3000 to $5000 for wheels that don't hold up? I see lots of wheels at shows that are discolored, peeling, etc. This type of problem should not happen if you are washing your wheels with soapy water!

I believe that all Volk lips are anodized and then clear coated.

I had an Infiniti dealer ruin a set of mine when they washed my car and evidently sprayed some kind of cleaner on them when they were hot.

yes, Volks are anodized clear coated. the discoloration is common amongst every manufacturer who uses the anodized clear coat process. ive seen them on Work, Rays, Weds, SSR, and Racing Hart. only the newer apps from Rays have stainless labia's. cheap crappy cleaners/polishes/waxes also contribute to this.

i've had LE37Ts (in 18" for like 4 months and 19" for about a month) and no discoloration whatsoever.

wash your rims thoroughly, let them dry, and apply a coat of Wheel Wax - get a can at your local Infiniti dealer. it'll help with dust issues too.

A representative of Mackin told me to email the company photos of my wheel. I doubt they will do anything about it though
