Annoying self-testing noise on ABS system
I'm a new G35s A/T owner for about a month and a newbie on g35driver.com for a few hours. GREAT forum I must say!! So I have a question for all enthusiatic g35 owners and hopefully I'll get some feedback from you.
Almost 99% of the time when I roll my baby within 10 mph, I hear a crackling noise (like fan just started) and a "vibration" would transfer from the brake to my foot.
After troubleshooting (I shut down all sound device including AC/Fan) and researching the owner's manual, it stated what I described above is normal. It's a self-testing feature on ABS system when the car is moving slow.
I searched pretty much all G35 forums, but have not seen anyone mentioned this at all. It's kinda annoying for me having to hear this noise every time I pull my baby out of the parking lot.
If I read the owner's manual right, then I cannot imagine no one complaint about it.
Maybe I'm more sensitive than usual because the very first day after I paid 36,000 US $ out the door, I had to take the car back to the dealer because the AC system wouldn't shut down once I turn my key to ON position.
I really wasn't happy at all!! But I cooled down a bit after the dealer gave me a I35 loaner. I had to drive the loaner for about 3 days for the dealer to order the faulty sensor. Anyway, so much for my story.
So, to confirm my research is correct, or maybe I'm just being too sensitive, or maybe none of you had never heard this irriating noise before, your feedback is very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Annoying self-testing noise on ABS system
It is the ABS self-test. I usually don't notice it unless I'm rolling down a hill with my foot on the brake.
It has been mentioned on these forums several times. You're the first person that's figured it out before asking what it was, however.

Re: Annoying self-testing noise on ABS system
Thanks for the confirmation. Is G35 the first one to have self-test feature on ABS? Why are they making it so noticeable? It's really annoying to me.
Don't get me wrong I still love the G. I've been wanting it since it was first introduced and now I own it!! It's a GREAT feeling to own what you've always wanted. :-)

Re: Annoying self-testing noise on ABS system
I don't know. This is actually my first car with 4-wheel disc brakes, much less ABS, believe it or not.
Better to have the slight noise at first start and know the system is working, though, than to skip the test and not realize when it's busted.
