Question 6MT Coupe, replacing all 4 tires same size? ok?!

looking to replace all 4 tires with same size.
so I can rotate and get better wear.
any issues with VDC?

I realize front and rear rims are all 18x8 +30 and I can remove the front bolt from the hub to fit the rears on the front.

only issue is VDC acting up?

looking to go 245/40-18 all around, which is basically the same rolling diameter
as the front stock size 225/45-18.

thanks for any input.

The guys at the shop where I buy my wheels told me that I needed to maintain some kind of rake or the VDC would start trippin'.

I have seen it done. It should be fine since all the tires are same size/offset.

uhhhh..... i dont think this will work. I dont have any experience with THIS particular question, but i am 99.99999% sure you will have vdc problems. when people go up in sizes for their wheels/tires they maintain a stagger about equal to the stock stagger % wise.

just to give you an idea of how touchy our vdc actually is, i'll tell you that i replaced my rear tires before my fronts (about 5k miles before) because of the fact that i had a lot more wear on my rears than fronts. AFter replacing only my rear tires, just the difference in diameter caused by the wear was enough to throw my vdc off. it was kinda like driving a fiat for a few thousand miles because in bending turns the vdc would kick in and take over. WHen it first happened i was on a 1 lane exit with barriers on each side and it almost made me wreck at about 50mph. i would just stomach the wear and not take my chances on having to buy 6 tires after having the 4 mounted and having vdc trouble

well since I have ordered up the tires already, I will be sure and report back the results for any others whom wish to do the same.

go hit a curve (one that you would start to break loose around 60-70mph) and see what your results are... im interested to see if your vdc goes crazy. Go pick some turns and curves and take them with your current setup and see what speed you feel is your max speed. Then go take them with your new tires and see when vdc kicks in/what you feel comfortable doing. a turn i took today at 70mph with my es100's that i coulda taken a little faster with my pilots new... my vdc was kicking in at about 45mph when i just had new rears and not fronts.

my personal opinion is that you are gonna have to buy another set of rears by the way if you mount these... and i would return them or cancel the order to save money... i hope it works out for you though (even though you didnt follow my advice)

Sport Compact Car magazine played with a project 350Z with same size tires all the way around, might be interesting reading for you:

The particular Z in question didnt have VDC however:

It should be mentioned that our tire selection will most likely disable or at least really **** off the Vehicle Dynamic Control system if you have one. VDC observes the world through wheel speed sensors and assumes the rears are slightly taller than the fronts. With all four the same size, it will always think the rear tires are spinning slightly. Our Performance Package Z is, thankfully, free from such electronic ninnary.

I havent experienced any problems so far with the VDC, even today in the rain. I will try and take some high speed corners and see how the car reacts, but in all honesty these are summer tires and I usally drive the car with the VDC off unless the weather condtions merit using VDC.

btw, I am using BFG KDW2's 245/40-18 all around

Everyone is telling you you shouldn't do this, and I agree. May I ask why? I know the VDC wont like this, and the Wheel gap in back must be ugly. Why not just stock with the 45 series in Back? 245/40/18 up front is fine, it will lessen the understeer. I don't understand your reasoning here.

wheel gap i nthe back looks fine, reasoning for rotation, better tire wear for a car that eats tires.
