Re-Drilling Bolt Pattern...Need Help

I am seriously considering buying my friend's wheels and putting them on my next car. However, his wheels are designed for the Infiniti bolt pattern...my car is a BMW bolt pattern. I believe the offsets are ok, it's just the bolt pattern that's the problem.

We called up a place that said they can simply re-drill the bolt pattern and it would be no problem at all. The cost to re-drill the bolt pattern on the rims would be about $50 dollars per wheel.

On top of that cost the guy said they have to heat up the center pattern before drilling, and that damages the paint on the center cap. So after drilling, the center caps need to be re-painted. To repaint the center caps it'll be another $50 dollars per wheel.

So in total, the cost will be $100 a wheel to have it re-drilled and re-painted. $400 total cost. To me this seems kind of steep, but I've never done this type of thing before.

Does $400 to do all 4 wheels sound right?

Thanks a lot!

I highly suggest buying wheels that fit in the 1st place. Heating up the wheels that much that it might affect whatever temper they have is not worth it IMHO. Just buy some BMW bolt pattern wheels.

I already thought about that...but I'm getting a really nice hook-up on these wheels. It's too good to pass up.

I'm inclined to agree with Jeff here. Is it really worth all that trouble?

mike...spoke to my cousin. if the bolt pattern is going to get larger i.e from 5x112 to 5x114 then its possible. i havent heard of heating the center etc. ive had it done on numerous wheels of mine. he said 25/wheel. as long as its not a drastic drill. from what bolt pattern do you want to change it to? bmw is 5x120 i tihnk?

Stop being a Jew? Well lets see...they're MAYA STM's that go for 4,000 new with tires. Used they go for about $3,000.

I'm getting them for 1800 with good tires...so even if I spend $400 to get them to work I think that's pretty worth it.

Yea, it's from the Japanese bolt pattern 5x114 to German which I believe is 5 x 112.

How much does he charge for that?

Thanks G

5x112 is the bolt pattern for the audi and benz, the bmw's are 5x120 what sizes are they and offsets and I'll help you out alittle bit. Also I've never heard of heating the centers.

Well, the rims are on my friend's g35 sedan. Maya STM 19x8.5 +38 offset...the rear is 19x9.5 +45 offset.

They are going to go onto a 2006 BMW 330i with sports package. From what I was told the offsets will be fine, the rears just need a spacer.

The only problem is the bolt pattern that needs to be drilled. Honestly I didn't think it was that big of a deal because I've spoken to people who've had rims made for Audi's or BMW fit on their G's...so I don't think it should be too hard to make G35 rims fit a Bimmer.

Thanks a lot for your help James...or anyone else who has any light they could shed on this matter.

Yea, I've had my current G sedan for like 3 years and couple months...and for me that's a long long time. I was going to get a G coupe, but there's no point if they new body is coming out next year. I'm sure i'll be back to Infiniti for the next gen coupe

The wheels wont look good when done. The Maya's have exposed lugs so when the drill the new pattern they wont be spaced the same as the other pattern. What you will end up having is some holes close to another and some will be spaced farther away. I dont know what the back side of the wheel looks like (mounting pad) but if you do get these drilled that mounting pad also has to be flat all the way around with out any gaps. That is a good deal on wheels just not for a BMW owner.

If what you're saying is true...then it's just not worth it.
