Pad recommendations for a schmoe?

Hey all, I'm just an average driver that likes to punch it out at every stoplight/sign. However, I don't ever race or drive above 100 enough to warrent getting ceramic pads. I do not like the OEM brake dust issue, and they started squeaking at around 12000 miles, so is there an alternative that has less brake dust but isn't a racing pad? Thanks evrbowdy!

Yes, there are a couple of choices, I am getting the EBC Greenstuff Pads. There also are hawks, nismo and I think a couple of others. The main issue is the rear pads since not all of the manufacturers make those yet, at least they are not available yet from some.

Do EBC Greenstuff make rear pads too? And do you (anyone) know which pads won't destroy the rotors as fast? Thanks for the input!

I was told that ebc will have the rears in about a month. I will be puitting the ebc's with the DBA Gold crossdrilled and slotted rotors.

Re: Pad recommendations for a schmoe?

I got the front EBC Greenstuff pads from http://www.brakesrus.com/ I called them to order. Like I wrote before they said about a month for the rear. The fronts were $86.24 shipped. I have been using the statisfied pro ceramics for about a thousand miles, the dust is almost gone, stopping power about the same as stock and they were something like $35 from tirerack.com, I called as well. I am going to keep those just in case, when my EBC's get here. I am hoping that with the EBC's, new rotors and stoptech brake cables I will have close to brembo performance.

Also at 12k miles all you really should be concerned about is the front anyway, they wear off much quicker than the rear. Ill let you peepz know how my setup works when it gets here, probably will have it on this weekend.

Re: Pad recommendations for a schmoe?

ok if you are an average driver that is not going to bring his car to leguna seca you DONT want to get the ebc, hawk, metal matrix, and nismo pads. those pads mentioned are high performance pads that work best when the brakes are under high stress and heat. ceramic pads are not high performance, that is why i bought the satisfied pro ceramics for the front of my coupe. yes they only make front but i never had a problem with the rear getting dirty. i have had the ceramic pads on for around three weeks and they are quiet, and keep my wheels 99% cleaner than stock.

How do the ceramic pads perform compared to the OEMs?

Re: Pad recommendations for a schmoe?

Sorry, there is a lot of info on all of these pages and sometimes it is difficult to remember everything that I read. Besides, you were the only one in this thread that mentioned the performance of the pads. I would hope that others would reply with their constructive criticism...I'm just trying to make an informed decision.
