Upgraded Wheels - TPS Sensors?

About 2 weeks ago, I found some OEM 18 inch wheels for sale. I had the oem 17s, so I decided to upgrade.

My dad put them on my car, but when I asked him later he said he didn't see any tire sensors. The owner of the 18s said he did have sensors on the car. I've been driving the car now for 2 weeks and have driven "tested" them out. I have also driven them for over 45 minutes straight, the sensor only came on once, but that's because the tire pressure was really low b/c the former owner had them sitting in his garage for a year.

Question 1:
So all I need to do is go to the dealership and tell them to hook up the sensors? I heard it costs around 45 dollars a wheel?

Question 2:
Where are the sensors? I have an '05 g35 coupe auto w/ only the premium package. I believe the former owner of the 18s had a '04 and had TPS on his wheels.

I am a newb. Sorry.

1) dealer will reprogram the new sensor to your car.
2) if the valve stem is metal looking and has a 10mm nut around it then you have the sensor on there.

As stated above, the sensors have to be programmed to your car. The dealer can do that for you. Unless the original owner removed the sensors, the 04's have the sensors, whereas the 03's did not and have a regular rubber valve stem.

the actual tire sensor is between the rim and the actual tire - although i haven't seen the one for the G, it should look like a small box and it is right under the tire valve location (it is connected to the valve stem)

signal is transmitted via RF (and may actually be using bluetooth now like the other car manufacturers)

the sensor is actually part of the valve stem...if the valce stem is mtal with a nut it has a tire pressure sensor (TPS)...if im not mistaken i think there is something in the owners manual on how to reset the sensors....and the sensors from an 04 to 05 may be different....so if anything have them switched over from your 17 to your 18 if they are cause the stem should be the same size cause i believe its standard...

hmm - interesting... not sure if i read this right but are you saying that there is no TPS console in btween the rim and the tire anymore?? it is all part of that nut??? seems a little improbable that they can get all that in there but maybe i'm misreading your post...

He is correct....the sensor is actually in the valve stem, nothing between the rim and the tire at all. I recently purchased new rims and tires and they simply swapped the valve stems and everything seems to be working fine.....

Here is what they look like from various manufacturers. It's no longer a box banded around the rim.

(last one) yes, the sensor is PART of the valve stem -- agreed that it is all one piece. what i was asking was: if you take the tire (rubber) off, you will see a small box UNDER the exterior valve stem - this is the brain of the sensor (and it is connected to the valve stem).

are you guys saying that this box is no longer there?

let me know!

EDIT: just saw the post before mine -- so are you guys saying that the small black box you see there is no longer there??

Dealers normally charge about $90-100 to reprogram all 4 TPS. $45 each is a bit much. Nissan dealers can perform this as well.

My Dealer in Canada quoted me $40 to re-program all the tire sensors.
They should look like this:

Anyone try attaching them with straps inside of the wheel on aftermarket wheels? I believe some of the 350z guys do it using metal hose clamps attached together.
