DIY: Stealth Mac mini install and eD speakers
Finished this up last week (well almost finished), I have been working on this since Thanksgiving. School, work, kids, and wife were the only things that slowed me down .
Price list -
Screen and housing ~400 Ebay
Mac Mini - 400 craiglist
Pac AAI NIS2 (Satellite to RCA inputs) - ~85 Don't remember
Power Supply - Carnetix CNX-P1900 with the "Mac Pac" -$125 Buy here
L.O.C. ~20 Ckt City
VGA to RCA converter - ~35 Ebay
eDi 6500's Already owned
eD Nine.1 amp - Already owned
eD 13ov.2 x2 already owned, second one is waiting for a box.
To take the head unit out follow these directions that were made by someone else

The one for the 05-06 is missing a step, you have to pull of the panels next to your shifter/radio, they are a pain to get out, you have to yank it out starting from the bottom rear and work your way up.
Here is the IR for the remote. I put it right next to the Passenger air bag light. The flash really makes it stand out, but under normal lighting you can't see it.
First test fit
In order to run the 4 gauge cable for the sub amp, I drilled a hole in the firewall (5/8" drill bit), put some touch up paint in the hole, and installed the grommet/cable.
Screen Power Cable. Having a cable plugged in to the cigarette lighter at all times is not the look that I'm going for, so I soldered it.
Power supply CNX-P1900 for the Mini, directly under the head unit (Radio).
Around the forums I have seen some mis information about the coloring of the Rear speaker wires from the head unit. Here is a picture of mine (06 AT)
yellow and black = left ground Teal = left +
Pink and Black = Right ground Orangeish red = Right +
My L.O.C. wasn't going to fit behind the radio with the case still attached, so I took it apart and wrapped it in electrical tape to keep it from shorting out on anything
Put the PAC AAI NIS2 next to the shifter.
To take the door panel off, first pop this part off by using a screw driver on the bottom of it (tape up the driver to protect the car)
Then unscrew the two screws behind it and the one behind the door handle. The door panel is in two pieces, pop the bottom piece off first and then do this piece, you don't have to do it this way, but it is easier to get to these screws.
eDi 6500's - Pull off the grill and use the plastic piece as a spacer, you just have to install it backwards. These speakers are begging for a dedicated amp.
Sorry I forgot to take pictures of how I put the Tweeter in.
I put the crossover on the door panel
The rear seat is very easy to pull out.
To get the bottom cushion, there are two pull tabs at the bottom front of the seat
To get the upper cushions out, unbolt two bolts at the bottom of each cushion and pull them up.
Finished install
Remote holder ;D
Final front screen. Made it as close to factory looking as I could.

Lancer,
As for the Amp, it's too big to go behind the seats. Not sure what else to do with it, until I grow the cajones to glass a couple of boxes together so I can use the other 12 that I have had for a year now .
As for the Mini, mostly just front row. I have it full of mp3's right now (I have a lot) and a few movies. I bought a camera to use for cruises and what not, but it didn't have drivers for the mac, and the mac cam drivers white washed the image, so I took it back. I want to get some Navi software, but I haven't found anything for Japan (Moving next year).
What would you do with it, if you had it?

I kinda want to try my own nav system (there are a few mac nav apps out there, you have to look for them though) and some applescript trickery, things like syncing libraries when it finds the wireless network in the garage, voice activated commands, bluetooth etc...
I really haven't thought through all the possibilities but with a little open source software and some coding, it would be possible to make some really cool stuff.
But I'm kind of a geek like that
