We debate this all the time on some of the personal finance forums I'm on. You make sacrifices in some area, to enjoy your vices in others.

The problem is everyone has a different opinion on what is worth spending money on, and where costs should be cut. Really what it all comes down to is what you feel is a priority in life.

Not everyone is going to agree with each other with this regard and from what I've seen, everyone feels their choices are the "correct" one and everyone else is wasting $$$

Premium got better fuel economy, and was worth an extra $4 a tank. 89 lost a reasonable amount of MPG and 87 just barely achieved 10 mpg.

I tried 93 in my Frontier and it made no difference at all. I run 89 in the G and 93 (required) in the Q50

And FWIW, I would recommend trying other octane levels to see what gets good gas mileage and performance. I tried the 87/89 routes and unfortunately lost a significant amount of mileage per tank (drop in MPG).

Not the same story for other vehicles though... this one gets the same performance and mileage on 87 as it does on 93 pump gas, I checked on a dyno.
Interesting.

So you are using 87 on your sportbike? I always use premium on mine and since it doesn't cost much to fill up a bike anyway. I'm a bit weary of using regular on a sportbike, but it has crossed my mind.

You assume all of that and couldn't be more wrong. The fact that you think of a vehicle as an asset just proves my point, I drive a G because I enjoy the experience, I like the old school feeling the car delivers and that's the point of this thread and for many this website, you've missed the point of both.
FWIW - I was alive when the first Mustang rolled of the assembly line, have owned, raced many cars & bikes and race them in several disciplines, am the sole provider for my wife and two children and have invested much less than the original msrp into the G and it has served me well for nearly 250,000 miles over the last 10 years.
Have a good day

Read the label. Most of all Suzukis are 87 octane [(R+M)/2].

From a GSXR forum: "the only time you should be using premium is if you changed the compression of your bike (600) or if you specifically tuned it for that gas..."

There really isn't a difference for street vehicles in terms of octane. Just Anti knock rating. Run as low as you can go (octane) with the best economy. This is why Telcoman runs 87. If it works on your vehicle, great!

I get that, but I tend to follow manufacturer recommendations on my vehicles. Specially On high performance vehicles with higher compression. On regular cars that only need 87, that's what I go with.

This from a guy that probably owns $3000 in fly fishing gear or a set of Carbon Graphite shafted clubs.

Owning this old car is now a HOBBY. Just like my Amateur Radio. Heck, I probably have $20-30,000 tied up in radio gear. Then there's my gun collection....

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Ummm depending what review you look at, yes it is. Close on most but I've seen Camry at 5.8 sec. 0-60 and G35 at 6.2 sec. Not a big difference but the bottom line I think urban was making is they're both relatively quick but the G is hella more fun to drive!!
