Are the new Infiniti's really better?
We bought a 2005 G35 Sport Sedan MT6 in February of 2005. It's now 11 years old. In May of last year, I bought a 2015 Q50S with no DAS, as close to the G35 as I could get without the Manual transmission.
We love the luxury of the new Q50S, but that's about it.
Here's the funny thing; we loaned our G35 to my daughter two weeks ago while her car was being repaired. We went to pick it up in the Q50. When it was time to come home, we had to flip a coin to see who got to drive the "old" car home.
Kinda says something about the ride, handling and feel of the "original" Infiniti doesn't it?

They are interested in those that visit their showrooms and purchase and lease brand new vehicles.
Personally I love my stick shift 2012 G37S but studies of the American market show that very few Americans will buy a stick shift vehicle.
The market for electric vehicles is growing and for a daily driver with a 100 mi round trip makes a lot of sense. With free charging stations beginning to grow in shopping malls, less maintenance, no more oil changes we are seeing the future.

I don't think the marketing staff at Infiniti gives a crap about those purchasing over 10 year old vehicles.

Some of you know I recently bought a 2001 Honda insight as my DD. I know this is not the Q50, but I'm going somewhere with this, trust me.
I am convinced that the first generation insight was never supposed to be a car that stayed on the road as long as it has; it wasn't supposed to gain a cult following. The more I learn about it the more I feel like it was only sold to the public to recoup some money for the insane tech research that went into it. That being said, I'll list all reasons it was FAR ahead of its time (debut in 1999): brake by wire, hyper sensitive throttle by wire, hybrid drive integration technology, active fuel metering, brake regeneration, extreme weight and aerodynamics, lean burn capability (a/f can reach 25:1), insanely tall gear ratios, etc. I mean, I can never assume my speed by feel. 35mph and 75mph "feel" exactly the same.
Anyhow, the point is that with all of this extremely well thought out and advanced tech comes loss of connection. It was a test for all platforms and the future of automobiles as a whole. To drive my G and my insight back to back would be like comparing apples to...well..a bowl full of cement. They couldn't be more different. That's not to say one's better or worse, but these "advancements" seem to be the new norm. Us real car guys who love the feel of the road will soon become a quickly dying breed because new generations will know nothing about analog life.
I guess what I'm saying is just be glad that anyone who owns a G35 has one of the last real drivers cars that were mass produced.

Two Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Long Island
Car was going eastbound in westbound lane of Sunrise Highway in Brookhaven
http://www.wsj.com/articles/two-kill...and-1480290009
"An Infiniti traveling eastbound in the highway’s westbound lane in Brookhaven hit a Chevrolet van headed in the right direction around 4 a.m., the Suffolk County Police Department said.
The Infiniti driver, Kevin Melgar, 23 years old, of Brentwood, died at the scene, officials said. The Chevrolet driver, who police identified as Ozcan Ayyildiz, 49, of Mastic Beach, died at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, officials said. "
I suppose the 23 yr old Infiniti driver was just having fun being out at 4 AM

telco I'm a little disappointed in your response here. Any idiot in any car can pull a stupid stunt like the article talks about, that situation is in no way Infiniti specific. I'm 54 and a very responsible driver and I way prefer driving my sedan over a newer tech-filled car like the Q50. This thread is about how much fun the first gen Infiniti's are to drive for a lot of us and your negativity is not necessary or appreciated.

That was my point!
What were his parents thinking when they allowed this kid to purchase such a vehicle?
Glad he is off the road for good
